A thorough update, the new Silencer Mk II strikes the right balance between server-class industry standard topology and the cutting-edge of enthusiast computer power supply design. Built with industrial and professional power users in mind, key features of the Mk II include a Single +12V Rail for maximum and efficient power distribution, a generous thermally controlled 135mm double-ball bearing fan for maximum airflow at near-silent audible noise levels, extremely tight and well regulated electrical noise and ripple, an ideal array of connector types for each wattage, and ultra-high efficiency, converting up to a full 88% of AC to DC power at typical loads. There are a plethora of connectors available and the PSU not being modular (everyone's main beef) wasn't a problem for me. A lot of people are going with the Fractal/Corsair/Antec P280 cases so hiding the extra cables shouldn't be a problem (I personally used a P280). The cables were just long enough for the 24pin and 8pin mobo connectors though so be careful if you happen to building in a mid to full tower case. Saving $20+ AND having a company that has been in the game for forever was more important to me than paying extra for modular. It's not a big of a deal as you think.
In short - buy this PSU. It's a killer price and you won't be let down.
i5-3570K @ 4.5GHz with Corsair H100
ASRock Z77 Extreme6
GSKILL 8GB Ripjaws
MSI GTX 670
This one meets stands out as being a great price, great design and great components.
The only obvious issue is that this is not a modular cable unit, but it does not cost what a modular unit would.
I know of no better power supply for the price.
Note: PC Power and Cooling power supplies supply the rated power 'at operating temp'. Not 'at start up temp', like most manufacturers. So don't buy another manufacturers 1000 watt supply. You will get better power, and likely more power, from PC Power and Cooling 750 watt. Unless you only want to run your computer for about 5 minutes, until the power supply has reached operating temp.
Cons: It's features are also it's only drawback. There are a LOT of wires!!! BE WARNED.
You will probably need a large size tower or something like a Corsair mid-tower with plenty of inventory room in the back for these wires. I have a Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 Full Tower and I barely was able to tuck these wires away in the back. Can't say it's the neatest work I've ever done, but since it's in the back, fortunately you can't see them. What would have made this power supply better would have been detachable connectors. This was recommended to me from a friend after he did some online research, but neither of us were expecting the huge amount of wires. But we made it work, so I'm happy.
Other than that, no issues so far and VERY QUIET! I can't hear it at all! :D
*Lots of connections
*20/4 pin for older or newer mobos
*750W continuous power
*88% efficiency rating (for the environmentally conscious)
*7 year warranty
*Does not come in assorted colors
*Refuses to print money
Seriously... buy it.
of the system, with this being 80Plus certified you see best throughput of any operation that you are including for example
copy huge files from one hard drive to another 'or' playing a video game. After buying this I ended up changing all the power supplies of my old
PC's to use the power supply from this maker.
This is best power supply and the power rating is under rated which means you at least 100W more than what is being specified.
It's built solid and comes with every connector ill ever need
Cons: Not modular
Other Thoughts: My advice to anyone building a quality machine should never skimmy on a cheap PSU
