AVOID!!!! Don't get this cable unless you want to burn your computer.

I would highly suggest to NOT get this cable, for whatever you hold dear.

It is poorly made; don't trust whoever says that it is well made...under the blue tape, you can see horrible solder points; most of them are not consistent and too close together (take apart a well made ribbon cable not crimped, and you will see the difference).

I have installed this one today; the computer won't even boot to POST, and give me BIOS memory warnings. Removing the cable fix the issue (and my computer is running in this config, with these ram, video and everything else since 2012).

I tried to re-position the cable, and sometimes it boot, but then in windows you get continuous crash of the video drivers, to the point where the whole OS just sit and cry, and you have to reboot.
Which may or may not happen.

On my last attempt I just heard popping like when something is put in short circuit; video went blank and I just realized that my video card died (a 550 dollars video card). Luckily it was just a cap on the power area of the motherboard (I wish they would use fuses, but oh well); so replacing it fixed the computer; altho I am getting a new motherboard tomorrow for sure.

So if you care about your computer; check a better type of cable, that is correctly shielded and well made.

Do not buy riser from this perticular vendor

The riser from this particular vendor has poor assembly quality, which leads to constant hardware error while mining. From what I experienced, the miner will crash every hour or so.

A well designed riser should be impedance matched and shielded. They are typically $100. While we don't have that amount money for mining, so we go with these cheap ones. Some of these cheap risers work OK, if they are assembled/soldered reasonably.

The one from this seller is poorly soldered. you cannot use it for mining purposes. As for other purposes, I doubt the card can work stably without crashing.

PS. By remove this riser and connect my GPU directly to my motherboard solved crashing problem. So I am sure it is this riser that causing crash.

Doesn't work. Tried with multiple cards and mobos... don't buy this guys. Wouldn't be as dissapointed if I were able to get a refund or replacement. It was ten bucks but still don't take the chance I see horrible reviews about these risets in the forums. Like 70 percent don't work I'd give less stars if I could for having to waste my time and money. God bless and please don't make the same mistake I did.. I didn't think to look up the risers on the net before purchasing.. won't do that again

Good cable - allowed installation of a video card too big for my slim Dell Inspiron 660s

Cable worked perfectly. Due to peoples' horror stories I played it safe and inspected the ends using backlight and strong magnification after peeling the blue tape off. I found material between some of the adjacent solder joints (preumably solder flux residue) and scraped it off as a precaution. If it had been solder, and left in place, that would be bad. The solder joints at the ribbon conductors had a shiny surface indicating a quality result. The notch at the end that plugs into the pci slot had the ribbon conductors (unused) protruding into it. As a precaution against shorting against adjacent conductors I trimmed those flush with the notch. My video card had to mount externally as my computer case was too small to accommodate it. There were smaller cards available but were less powerful for same money and noisy per som reviews. This cable let me pick the best card for the job!

Effective solution

Low cost effective way to move your video card. There are many reasons you may want to move the video card in your system. In my case I was trying to install a 2U video card in a dell computer. Many older Dell computers hold the GPU upside down and this caused my new 2U video card not to fit as the CPU heatsink was in the way. In order to mount the GPU you may have to do some fabrication to fit differently. In my case it was a temporary use so I simply removed the computer from its chassis.

Fried my motherboard

I plugged this riser into a setup that had been running fine for weeks without issue. When I powered on the power supply, there were sparks and a few popping noises. Smoke began to rise from the end of the riser that was attached to my video card. I immediately turned off the power, but the damage was done. Luckily, my high end video card was fine, but my motherboard could not be salvaged. The seller (Urban Source) informed me that they would gladly refund the $25 riser, but they could not do anything about my $100 motherboard. The quality of risers on the market right now seems to be sub-par due to the high demand. I would advise being very careful who you buy from and what brand it is. I have decided to abandon risers all together and figure out a different way to keep my cards cool.

Suspect quality - READ BEFORE BUYING

This piece of hardware seems flimsy. I installed this into my machine and bent it around to get it in the right position, and 4 pins broke off from the ends. The soldering looks suspect. If you have to buy this one make sure you are extremely careful with the placement. This error cost me 3 hours of troubleshooting before I finally figured out that, no, my memory isn't dead, no my motherboard isn't dead, no, the video card works fine, but oh, its just the dang card extender!
