As a clinician who has worked with complex young people and adults with Autism throughout my working life, I was delighted to be asked to review this book. I read it in one sitting. It is the most articulate, honest, entertaining (and sometimes funny) book about PDA I have read. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to gain an insight into how this profile impacts upon individuals, their families and those who work with or are involved in their education. -- Dr Judy Eaton, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
In this book Harry has told the fascinating story of his interesting and inspiring life. With great use of humour, grace, and emotion he gives brilliant insight into his Pathological Demand Avoidance, which I'm sure reading it would be helpful to many people. -- Liam Ragless, Autism Support Advisor, Assert Brighton and Hove

I have absolute confidence that this will transform many people's perceptions of not only themselves, but will also help parents of children understand PDA better. I really wish we had good support for diagnosing this in the U.S., but sadly that is still a monumental challenge here. Books like this are so badly needed for this reason.
The book also has more far reaching implications about how we as a society need to better understand, support, and appreciate the neurodiverse, who our world is so desperately in need of.

No two people with PDA are the same but I feel like my son has written to me from the future. It’s given me confidence that what I do is the right thing. Thank you harry I’m bursting with gratitude.
The book demonstrates how many of the systems in which we live; fail to support children and adults with PDA. It shows how, without the very distinct kind of support children and adults with PDA need, systems such as school and work can, unintentionally, cause immense harm.
Harry brings to life how PDA is so much more than demand avoidance and just how painful it can be to battle with a different and greatly misunderstood kind of Neurology. By contrast he also skillfully shares how, when a person with PDA is afforded sufficient freedom to learn and grow, greatness can be achieved.
Parents and professionals alike, have an opportunity to gain much greater insight into PDA, by learning from the content Harry so generously shares in his book.
It's easy to read and would even recommend this to teenagers who are in the Autism Spectrum.
Like others, I could not put this book down and I will be reading it again just to remind myself that our son doesn't "behave" like this on purpose...
Just an additional note: This book will not give you as a parent/carer/family member how to "deal" with PDA. It simply is a good story from someone with PDA and how it impacted his life
Harry Thompson is a captivating, eloquent writer, offering unwavering insight into his life thus far. This book is enchanting and beautifully expressed.
The journey into the world of Pathological Demand Avoidance, is a fascinating one!
Everything we understand about how our society functions, all the unwritten rules and expectations, outdated social constraints, are rejected by the PDA individual.
There is so much to be gained from living authentically, with the freedom to find ones own path in life.
Like most reviews on here, I read the book entirely in very little time. It was utterly engaging from the beginning!
Harry has a Facebook page - Harry Thompson PDA Extraordinaire, where he regularly shares his musings, live talks and more. It is worth a visit!
