This review is solely based on use with a PC. I did not test these on any consoles to know how well they work with them.
They are a quality build and don't feel cheap to hold or wear. Very easy to set up on a PC. Just stick the provided Dongle in a USB port and then attach the headphone jack that is connected to the dongle in your PCs headphone Jack. No drivers to download or software to install. The LED lights are pretty cool and I like that you can change the color to anything you want. You get a ton of cables with these so you can basically connect them to anything from your Cell phone (Via a wire that goes from the headset to your phone.) To your PS3 or Xbox 360 and PC. The Mic seems to have good sound quality and can bend and be tucked away if you do not need it. The mute button for chat is easy to toggle and the volume controls are on the ear cuff so you don't have to mess with a control on the end of a wire. The range and battery life are great. 10 hours on a full charge and I can walk all over my house without losing a signal. The sound quality I would say is average. You do get some directional sound effects and the 3 different sound modes are a nice touch. I would say you get good mid-range sound but I feel my old Turtlebeach Headset had a better bass sound. But when playing games Mid-range is better to have at least with FPS games. Single player games I tend to like to crank up the Bass.
I have experienced some humming sound when the fans are going in my PC. This doesn't seem to happen all the time but when it does it is very annoying. I am still trying to pinpoint the issue to resolve it. Some suggestions have been use the USB and Headphone jack in the back of the PC rather than the Front, get a better power strip or plug your pc into an outlet that is not powering a lot of other stuff. Also the USB dongle glows bright blue so it could be a distraction if you play in a dark room and the PC tower or gaming system is right next to you.
The cushioning on the headband of these is rather thin. After wearing them for about 3 or 4 hours I start to get some pain on the top of my head. They could have used some softer thicker cushioning on the top. The ear cuff foam is quite comfortable though and overall your ears do not start to hurt or get sore at least not as bad as the Tutlebeach headset I had. Also they let your ears breath so you don’t get sweaty or moist.
The volume controls are not the greatest. It’s rather confusing trying to get the volume and mic level where you want it. You would think that one control would be for mic volume and one for game but they both seem to affect the game volume so I find myself screwing with them a lot to get everything to sound how I want it.
The last thing I don't like is the mute button. Although it is easy to hit there is no indication of when you are on or off mute. My turtlebeach headset had a red light when you were on mute and also you could hear your voice though the speakers when you talked so you didn't end up raising your voice without realizing how loud you are talking. With this headset you don't hear your voice through the earphones and since these do a good job of noise canceling you tend to talk louder than you realize.
Overall this is a good wireless headset. I researched a lot of other headsets before I purchased this one and although it is not perfect it fit my needs and was within my price range. You will get good build quality and nice sound with a good mic. You may not want to play for extended periods of time due to the thin padding on the headband but they are fine for 3 to 4 hour sessions. You get good connectivity whereas other Wireless headsets I research tend to disconnect a lot and lose signal. I have not experienced that with these. Goofy Volume controls and a lack of hearing your voice though the headset was a negative but long battery life and a good range make up for that. You may experience buzzing or humming sound from power interference when using on a PC but I seemed to be able to make some tweaks to my setup to get it to stop.
The colors work great, and the sound is alright, not as superb as I was expecting for the price (though I know that there are MUCH pricier setups out there), and despite other reviews, I didn't really find the LED's to be distracting, though I don't play in a dark room. I didn't get to try the mic, but I loved the retractable feature and the LED that cue'd what mode the sound was in, but what led to the low rating is the ringing/ humming!
With silence, an extremely noticeable ringing/ humming sound.
I tried this set with music, can still hear the ringing.
Then a few videos/ movies, can still hear the ringing.
Finally, I tried it for the gaming aspect, and I couldn't get into the atmosphere of the game, again, because of the ringing.
Had my sister not decided that she wanted them to have a set that she found comfortable, they would have been an instant return.
Bit of an update after using the headset for awhile now, um well I still love the colors the feel of the headset. The sound is awesome. Perfect. Like your in your own IMAX theater or something... Only thing is, and from I've read I see no fix for is the mic. It's extremely sensitive. Which i mentioned previously. Which most probably think well that's good people can hear me. Nah, I mean if you're playing an intense game u can literally hear pressing of the controller buttons blasting.. Then talking since its so loud and depending on the other players volume it can sound extremely loud and distorted to them. So tired of hearing players complain and whine, its too loud blah blah blah.... so basically I use for the sound quality not so much mic..it's usually muted unless I decide to talk...I have not found a way to adjust the volume of the mic anywhere and upon researching doesn't seem to me there is one, so yea I dunno. You decide. Let me know if you find a way to help or fix this. Thats really my only issue. Battery charge lasts very long at least 10hrs for me even if I've stepped away and left them on. I can hold a charge 2 days or so. And I play quite a bit when not working..so yea that's it, so yea 4 1/2 stars if I could. Only cuz I could care less really about chatting and mic being too loud, Just wanna play the game and hear folks creeping up behind me.lol and look colorful doing it.
