Several problems with this. First off, this is the official remote, but it's not a Sony product. It's licensed. The build quality is less than the old PS3 remote. It's skinnier, lighter, and less comfortable. The texture on the plastic is not the same as on the controllers. The buttons are tiny.

Second, the number keys don't work in PS4 mode. So if you have an app like Plex where you need to enter a PIN, you have to do that with the arrow keys.... so everybody can see your pin while you're typing it in.

Third, it's short on buttons. No L1,2,3 or R1,2,3, etc. So if you have an app that isn't specifically programmed to respond to a remote's FF/RW buttons, but uses L2 and R2 instead, you have to go back to the controller.

Fourth, it has a volume punch through feature, but it only works with the "TV" mode. So it will send the volume keys to your TV in PS4 mode, but you can't make it send the volume to AMP or CBL. So if you have any sort of home theater setup and your audio doesn't go through your TV, you're plain out of luck.

Lastly, it didn't come with batteries.

Ok.
1) First thing to know, unlike the PS3 Semiuniversal remote, this one isn't made by Sony.
2) It comes with no batteries(2 AAA)
3) Unlike the PS3 bluray remote, it is missing some buttons , like r1, r2 L1and L2. ( very important on some streaming apps)
The pairing to the ps4 is easy. My problem with the remote is that you have to hit the devices button each time. If I just turn on the tv , I have to press the ps4 button from the devices section before I can press the PS button. Back and forth each time. It's annoying. Even if your volume is coming from a receiver or tv , you have to make the selection before. But believe it or not, that's the best they have right now. I really hope that Sony makes one. If you're expecting it to function as well as the PS3 , I'm afraid to tell you this isn't the remote for you.

Bad, very bad device. I had one of these that I had miraculously gotten configured so that it was truly universal and would power on/off my audio receiver (the control point for my entire A/V system). Dog decided she wanted to eat that one, so I repurchased. That device did not work correctly out-of-box. It would freeze after performing one function, sometimes it wouldn't do any functions before freezing. Nothing seemed to correct this.
Contacted PDP for help. Got one strange request for a picture of the model number plate, which I sent and that was it for over two weeks, during which time I repeated contacted PDP asking for an update on my help request. Eventually contacted Amazon and returned via them (thank you Amazon!). Someone at PDP eventually did contact me and seemed to have no idea what was going on, understand the frustration they had created or really care about cleaning it up. They did strongly encourage me to seek warranty repair. At least I think that's what they were trying to say. The email was mostly garble that made no sense to me.

So, if you can endure the journey that so many other reviewers have shared, you might end up with a product that is usefu, for a few months anyway and then you can repeat the process. I actually hold Sony responsible for this mess. If they want the Playstation to be the focal point of entertainment, and I'm pretty sure they do, then they need to develop a universal remote and ship it with the systems. At the very least, they should sit up and note the huge number of unsatisfied customers forced to deal with their contracted supplier, PDP. If they don't improve this, my next device isn't going to be a Sony product.

I had been waiting for this remote as using the controller for movie watching is not much fun and prone to being bumped into fast forward.

The thought of it being a universal remote was all the more interesting and a deciding factor to purchase.
I have an Onkyo 626 for my stereo, A Verizon fios Cable box, a Sony VPL-HW10 SXRD projector to complement my PS4.

The universal remote will not turn off the Onkyo 626, but I can at-least turn it on with one of the provided codes.
I cannot find a code that works with the projector. I would have thought that Sony would have at a minimum supported Sony products.
The Fios cable box works fine with no real issues.

Audio punch through does appear to allow setting the amp audio volume while using the cable box.

The PS3 remote is about $30 and is non-universal is about the same price as the PS4 remote. However, as a universal remote (which this is advertised as) it is extremely poor. As a PS4 only remote I would rate this 4 stars. I think Sony really missed the boat on this after delaying it for nearly 2 years from the release of the PS4. The functionality of it as a universal is just severely limited and does not even support a Sony projector.

EDIT:
Previously I thought the volume punch through worked while controlling the PS4. It does not. Only while in cable mode.

This remote works great with our PS4. Much better to use for watching TV with Playstation Vue than the game controller.

Pro: The volume punch through works with our Samsung TV, so don't have to fiddle with buttons for a simple volume change.

Con: After a stretch of inactivity, getting used to having to wait a few seconds for the PS4/remote to wake up before using remote.
