BEWARE change of chamois in this product

These shorts used to have an excellent chamois (see photo) but PI changed it to a new material. They didn't change the product branding so all these wonderful reviews (from before 2018) will actually reflect the old product. The new chamois is super annoying. It's soft but has a terrible fit, no conformity whatsoever. It looks and feels like you are wearing a diaper. Worse is the riding performance. Because the poor fit, they slip down over time. You have to pull them up constantly. Finally, you will catch them on the seat whenever you go to sit down (such as taking off from a stop light). Until PI brings back the appropriate chamois, these shorts should be avoided.

Update August 15, 2018 -- Lowered the rating to 1 star. They're not ever really comfortable and 15 miles into a ride they start getting very uncomfortable. As I said in my original review, I have 2 pair I bought back in 2012 and they have at least 1,500 miles on each of them. Both of those are FAR more comfortable to this day than this new version. Don't waste your money.

Not the same as the old version (of which I have two pair and like just fine). The padding tends to bunch up and pinch and the material is not as comfortable against the skin. I do a 30+ mile ride every other day and rotate between the three pairs that I have. This new pair is the only one that feels uncomfortable even though the other two have thousands of miles on them by now.

Not like the pearl Izumi I am familiar with. I had several pair of quest shorts they were all good. This style has different padding and stitching. They almost look like the padding is inside out. Not comfortable at all, little padding affect.

They Don't Grip!

Yes I know this is the PI economy tier BUT these are AWFUL. I have several of these entry shorts from a just a few years a go. They have since changed the design and ruined them.

These shorts DO NOT grip. The hem is lose. On these newer versions the hem is much wider creating a major design flaw. I don't have sprinter legs but these are the first shorts I've ever worn from any manufacturer that don't grip. Terrible.

CHAMOIS: Basically a giant 2D wad of foam. You will feel like you have adult diapers on. No contour with seemingly no thought to the human anatomy. They will rub on your legs.

This is yet another recent inconsistency with PI. They don't seem to make their products with the QC and attention to detail like they used to.

Every generation of Pearl iZUMi gets cheaper. First the draw string and elastic around the legs disappeared. Now the padding in the bottom has no contouring, variable thickness, etc. It's just a flat piece of foam. Very rough riding.

In my opinion, these shorts are a downgrade from the previous model Pearl Izumi Men's Quest Shorts (without the term "Escape" in the title"). They appear to be made from a slightly lighter material. The pad is not contoured and does not feel like a good fit, also produces a strange appearance through the short material. The stitching on the pad is a large zig-zag pattern that gives the shorts the appearance of a child learning to sew, unlike the fine stitching of the previous model. While riding, the padding seems less effective then the previous models style and between the awkward fit of the padding and some of the leg gripper inserts, the shorts feel uncomfortable and irritate the skin in places. In my opinion, these are better than some cheap low-end shorts I have tried, but a big step down for the Pearl Izumi brand, and a disappointment.

I have two pairs of PI shorts with “3D Race” padding that have been very comfortable. When I needed a smaller size, I checked the printed name inside and ordered what seemed to be the same item. Both say Pearl Izumi Select inside but this new one is completely different. Much more basic padding held in place with zigzag stitching. Much less comfortable, much less flexible (even accounting for it being new). Avoid.

I don't often write amazon reviews, but the last order of 2 of these shorts really rubbed me the wrong way... It seems that either Amazon is selling knock-off products or Pearl Izumi took a nose-dive. I have 2 pairs of these same shorts from 2015 and they've been great, quality product that I still use. The new ones "Spring 2020" model have new awful padding and even worse edge seam around the padding that will rub your skin raw on a long ride. Highly recommend looking somewhere else for shorts.

Die Hose ist sehr sauber gearbeitet. Das Material ist sehr angenehm auf der Haut. Jedoch erfüllt gerade die eingenähte Polsterung nicht meine Erwartungen. Es ist im Vergleich zu anderen getesteten Polstern sehr einfach gearbeitet und die Nähte scheuern bei mir an den Oberschenkeln. Aus diesen Gründen habe ich diese Hose zurückgegeben. Da ich nicht einschätzen kann, ob die Nähte generell oder nur bei mir scheuern habe ich vier Sterne vergeben, tendiere persönlich jedoch eher zu drei Sternen.
