Peter and the Werewolves is suspenseful throughout, and while Peter survives his adventures, there is no reset button to undo damage from them. That is where Peter and the Werewolves succeeds; these are not horror stories, but neither are they hokum that ends with everything having been some silly dream. Peter has many messes to clean up, but they make for good, spooky storytelling.
The storytelling gets a little scarier and more intense in this one, with a really creepy story where tiny trick-or-treaters terrorize Peter and his family at Grandfather's house. There's also one about a carnival that's headed by a really messed-up group of circus freaks, one about werewolves, and another about mannequins that come to life in a local mall. Really creepy, but lots of fun and adventure, and lots of funny moments courtesy of Peter's best friend Dill. The trick-or-treaters story, even though one of the scariest, has some of the best jokes, too.
If you liked "Vampires," you'll love "Werewolves".
I am a old hard core scary book fan. I will say that Darren and his series is by far my favorite. With getting a Kindle Fire for my Birthday gift, my husband has allowed me the luxury of BOOKS without end....finding Peter was the ticket for late night reading. I must say I have fallen asleep reading these books often. It is hard to put down!
Get the book, you will not be dissapointed...BUT start with book one. And then sail right through and stand with me asking Darren Pillsbury to write more!
The stories continue the adventures of Peter and Dill and the supernatural world that is after them. The stories continue to build on previous stories and continue to add new traits all the time. By the time you are done with their series, you will definitely want to know what is happening to Peter and Dill.
Overall, the stories are not any scarier than something might see in a PG movie, but anything that is described is done from a 10 year old point of view.
Out of the stories, I like the "werewolves" the best.
