1.0 out of 5 stars do not buy!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 8, 2018
I was in search for a high refresh rate monitor and this one ticked all the boxes: high refresh rate, g-sync, 1440p, ips. Absolutely amazing.
Let's start with the good things. The panel is an absolute joy to look at: great colours, great viewing angles, and good brightness. And with a refresh rate of 165 hz (overclocked), playing games on it is awesome.
The design is, in my opinion, the best out there. Build quality is great too, and the stand is robust and does a pretty good job of keeping the monitor firmly in place. The speakers are pretty bad, but they do the job for occasional listening. Lastly, the OSD is the best out there. Easy to use and everything you will ever need is a couple of clicks away.

So far an amazing monitor, right?
Not even close. Backlight bleeding is a plague, and it surprises me that we still have those issues in a 700 £ monitor! Seriously ASUS?!
First unit of mine came with dead speakers, dead pixels, and a small defect in the bottom right corner. Backlight bleeding was present in 3 of the 4 corners. Something that my cheap 99£ IPS ASUS monitor did not have. Impressive. When I did receive the second unit I immediately suspected the first one was refurbished. The buttons seemed more "loose", and the panel had a strange yellow tint on it. I'm not sure, but if this is the case, selling refurb products as new ones...shame on you ASUS.
The second unit was perfect except for some pretty bad backlight bleeding. It was noticeable everywhere: youtube full screen, games, hell, even during normal windows use, especially on dark backgrounds!
And lastly, g-sync. I don't know if i was unlucky but getting this thing to work was a pain! It never worked the first time I fired up a game: I had to manually disable it and then re-enable it. Every time it activated the screen used to go off for half a second and then went back on again. This on BOTH UNITS. Watching youtube was awful: on every single video in full screen I had this "flicker". At this point i though this was just how it worked, until i received the competing model from acer: no flicker, g-sync works EVERY TIME, and no dead pixels or build quality issues.
At this point I asked myself: i paid 119 £ more for a product that had the same specs, a crappy QA, and issues after issues! Do I recommend it? NO! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Unless you have money to waste, do not buy this! It is overpriced, has a lot of issues, and good luck getting a working one!

4.0 out of 5 stars This IPS Glows
Reviewed in Canada on October 30, 2018
I tried out 2 of these units before ultimately deciding that the IPS glow was too much. Unfortunately all of these 165hz 1440p IPS panels have it as part of their design being AU Optronics imitation IPS AHVA panels. There currently aren't any alternative options.

Check out my attached pictures for a good idea of what the glow looks like. It is only really noticeable in a dark room or when playing through dark scenes. The bottom right corner is always the worst. The further away you sit, the less glow but you'll always see it from a normal viewing distance.

After trying out a couple VA panels and even a TN, I decided that the image quality in these IPS panels are still better than those other technologies even with the glow. The input lag is also very low in this panel.

I don't think this monitor is worth $1028 CAD after tax though. I suggest looking at the cheaper alternative options offered by AOC, Acer, and ViewSonic or waiting for a sale. You can find them on Amazon by searching for "165hz IPS 1440p".

1.0 out of 5 stars INADMISIBLE.
Reviewed in Spain on February 9, 2017
