GUNNAR Computer glasses are designed to make your eyes not have to work so hard. Your eyes work hard all day and, spending hours in front of a digital device can be additionally hard on the eye muscles. GUNNAR'S exclusive design blocks blue light and reduces eyestrain while increasing contrast, protection, and focus. The result: improved clarity, comfort and performance.

How They Work
- Lens focusing power removes the eye muscle strain and keeps eyes feeling fresh.
- Amber lenses filter high frequency blue light that can cause both short-term and long-term issues.
- Frame and lens designs hold in humidity and reduce dry eyes and irritation to ease eye strain.
- Amber lenses add contrast to help sharpen characters and shapes on your screen.
- Anti-reflective lens coatings eliminate glare and visual distractions to the eye.
Digital Eye Strain also called Computer Vision Syndrome is a condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer screen for extended periods of time. Symptoms can include headaches, blurred vision, neck pain, fatigue, eye strain, dry eyes, irritated eyes, double vision, vertigo/dizziness, polyopia, and difficulty refocusing the eyes. These symptoms can be further aggravated by blue light exposure.

Blue light radiated from digital screens reaches deeper into the eye and its cumulative effect can cause damage to the retina and can cause the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Blue light has also been linked to cataracts and sleep disorders.
I recommend my patients take proactive measures to protect their vision from all the digital screens they look at. The easiest but most unrealistic solution is to stop or limit using digital devices. The realistic approach is to recommend or prescribe computer glasses to take that strain out of the eyes. Glasses with a slight amount of magnification to take the strain off the eyes along with anti glare and blue light tint to absorb the blue light emitted from electronics. -Dr Eric White O.D.
Blue light can cause:
- Cataracts
- Age related macular degeneration
- Slower metabolism
- Disrupted melatonin levels
- Depression

I work in front of a computer all day, and play PC video games a lot in my off time. After a few days I noticed that I'm not nearly as tired at the end of the day. I don't feel the need to rub my eyes nearly as much when I wake up in the morning either. The most telling thing to me though, was the other day when I was at the grocery store I was able to read the ingredients on a bottle without squinting and without reading glasses on. So my eyes are better (just not as fatigued more likely) now than they've been in a while even when I'm not in front of a screen.
On the less positive side, the shape of these are not pleasing to me at all. The side bars are very curved. So much so that it feels like calipers are on my head. By that I mean, the only thing touching my head are the very end tips. What this does is constantly pull the glasses closer to my face (it's even worse when wearing headphones) which leads to the real problem. These things are smudge magnets. I don't even have to touch the lenses to get smudges on them. Just being close to my skin they develop smudges. The warmth of my skin is enough to fog them near the nose cushions. This is in a room thats 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) My skin is a little oily, but it's not like it's dripping off of me or anything like that. I need to clean them several times a day, so have a lot of cleaner wipes handy.
The benefits outweigh the drawbacks for me. I'll order another pair when it's time to replace these, but I won't order THIS pair again. I'm actually indifferent to the Gunnar brand, so maybe my next pair will come from them or not.
Edit Oct 11, 2014.
After a couple months I've decided I don't really care for these. Between smudging so easily (I'm cleaning these every couple hours) and constantly looking through the reflection of my own eyeballs on the inside of the lenses which causes its own eyestrain I've found myself looking for something different.
The mildly yellow tint of the glasses does a pretty remarkable job of shading the video output to true white. I don't think the slightly blue cast of normal video output makes any real difference regarding eye fatigue, but who knows? Their styling is not the sexiest around, but when I'm sitting in front of the TV in my underwear punching at the controller, no glasses on Earth are going to make me a sex symbol.
The glasses do have a very slight magnification. I have only one theory why that is. For young users, visual accommodation is rarely a problem, but older users typically are far-sighted. It may help them a little bit. (Maybe...)
The glasses are very light-weight, and easy to forget you are wearing them. The plastic lenses seem a little flimsy, but another reviewer who is an optician said that they are of good quality. He should know.
Overall, if you spend LONG periods in front of a video screen and find that your eyes get very tired or sore afterward, I think you'll find any of the Gunnar Optiks gaming glasses help. They definitely helped me.
- P.S. I forgot to mention that if I were to order them again, I would go with something like the Gunnar Optiks DES-05101 SteelSeries Desmo Semi-Rimless etc. model. They wrap around your eyes more, and should perform better because of that.
I already have two pairs of Gunnar's computer glasses - I love them and I think they work very well to reduce any eye fatigue that I have at work and at home from using the computers for long periods of time. I thought the computer glasses might work for my gaming as well, but I really disliked the computing glasses for gaming, which is why I tried these.
The difference between these and the computer glasses for gaming is vast!
These are lightweight, and seemingly less amber than the computer glasses. (The computing glasses don't appear amber when I'm using a computer, just in front of my large screen TV when I'm using the PS4.)
I no longer have to pause the game to wipe away tears from my eyes, or blink excessively. Or take breaks due to eye fatigue! My gaming experience has improved immeasurably.
I'm just sorry I didn't buy a pair of these sooner!
I highly recommend these to anyone who games for hours on end.

It took me months of pondering about getting them or not.
I even tried to contact Gunnar UK which is managed by Kondor .co.uk (Rob.Bryant)
After 5+ emails and 3 phone calls over a period of a few months - Rob NEVER got back to me ever.
So I called the Gunnar USA HQ and they said I need to wait for them to get their stuff together. Well I waited months and still zip from Rob.
Anyway I eventually bought these things anyway only because I trust Amazon to take them back if they are rubbish.
Immediately I was blown away by how great the glasses are!
1: The yellow tint, actually works and does reduce blue light and eye strain. And your mind compensates for the very slight yellow tint and basically things just seem normal - that is until you take them off and the world seems a dull grey. This tint can be a bit addictive and should come with a warning to never take them off in-case of depression. It makes everything just POP with amazing brightness.
2: The slight increase (0.5) in magnification is actually very cool. It just boosts the clarity that little bit. In fact anyone that doesn't have perfect near sighted vision will enjoy these a little more because you will see like you have never seen before :) [aka anyone starting their 40+ near sight compulsory degradation]
3: Dry eyes - well I have very bad dry eyes. In fact I put in drops once an hour. With these on, it reduces air flow and reduces dry eye problems quite a lot. So that is a bonus indeed.
4: Style is quite cool and I picked the MLG Phantom over the Vayper Onyx. See attached images for comparison. MLG is on the right.
At the end of the day. I really thought this might just be a gimmick but I am just sold on these and probably couldn't live without them anymore.
* Top tip for Gunnar USA - Show your glasses on real people - so we can judge the size of these things. Use the same models wearing a variety of glasses. Then we will have a better idea on which ones to buy as buying over the internet is pretty hard when it comes to glasses!

I note some reviews stating they made no difference, I can only surmise these individuals didn't give them enough time. I'd recommend wearing for a least 2 or 3 days before coming to a conclusion. I very rarely spend my time writing product reviews but I felt an exception was deserved here.
Overall a very well designed frame, extremely light but robust compared to typical sunglasses for example. Highly recommended!

Only problem is moisture from my face fogs up the glass near my skin and they show even the slightest smear really badly. But the pouch works really well as a cleaning tool so as long as it’s to hand it’s not too bad.

I found the image to be not as clear as without the glasses; of course images will normally be clearer without extra optics, unless you need prescription glasses, but this was very noticeably blurrier (yes I did clean them with glasses cleaning solution).
The worse things though are the amount of glare and reflection. All glasses will have some glare and reflection, but this was very distracting and annoying with this pair.
My old prescription glasses were never as bad as these.
I could not get on with these glasses and they have been sent back to Amazon.

I was skeptical about this and was really unsure about throwing £50 upwards towards a pair of glasses that might not do anything but I went for it.
Im glad I did. I have not been getting dry eyes at my desk and more importantly I have not been getting migraines. They take some getting used to but I would recommend getting a pair as they really do work.
