This book is interesting because it offers an insight into the mind of a man who shaped the trajectory of the Wilson administration. The Wilson administration was fairly convinced that it would be the salvation of the US public, and one may agree or disagree with their assessment. What cannot be denied is the level of centralized control that was to be amassed within the federal executive branch. This book offers a romanticized vision of what this would look like, and why it was justified, in a literary tale. It is simply an odd vision that is fairly dishonest. That is one reason why I did not like it. The second reason rests in the fact that it is very poorly written.
Understanding this was President Wilson's favorite book helps you realize when you try to run a country on fiction you will be the worst US a President. The book is very informative and well written, easy to read, takes some time to comprehend some issues.
