Top Customer Reviews
B&O even made them portable and pretty easy to drive, so they could consume your life, even when you're on the go.
-Amazing sound signature! Meaty base with sparkling highs.
-Crazy lightweight for the sound delivered
-Exceptional passive sound isolation
-Inputs on both cups for more flexibility (and daisy chaining!)
-Metal construction feels nice in the hand
-Earcups pretty darn comfortable despite being round
-Metal is VERY easy to scratch, after which point they look terrible (Buy a case).
-Remote is designed for iOS. Partial functionality with android, but feels like a compromise.
-Round earcups are a little snug.
-Padding on the head band is pretty spartan, likely due to the light weight. Cloth material likely to become dirty over time.
-Design is a bit too "look at me" for my taste, though the build quality is exceptional. May also attract thieves.
-Turned my ATH-M50s into cat excrement.
After 5 years of searching for the (near) perfect headphones, my search is finally over.
Past and current headphones include Audio Technical M50, Sennheiser HD25-1 ii, Sennheiser Momentum 2, Beyerdynamics T51i, V-Moda M80, V-Moda XS and KEF M500. While each of them is good in their own right, they do not deliver the complete package like the H6 gen 2 does.
Given that I've only had my H6's for a day, this review will develop as time goes by, but initial impressions are amazing. I am rarely compelled to leave a review on amazon. This is one of those rare times.
The first thing that you notice when you unbox these is how light they are. They are over the ear headphones but feel substantially lighter than the Beyerdynamic T51i's. Light doesn't mean flimsy. Joints and all moving parts feel solid. The aluminium finish on the cups and the aluminium arms holding the cups oozes with quality.
Once you put them on you realise how comfortable they are. The clamp is firm but not overly tight like the Sennheiser HD25-1ii's. I could see myself wearing these for extended periods of time.
Next to the most important bit, the sound. Clean powerful bass, slightly relaxed mids, clear treble. Soundstage is massive. Left and right drivers sound like they are matched (i've had issues in the past where the left and right drivers just don't sound like they go together, no issues here). Lastly they are so easy to drive, my Iphone can easily power there to eardrum shattering volumes.
I've zero complaints 24 hours in. I doubt i will have any as time goes by, but we'll see.
Use a different cable than the included one with 3-button remote. It's not very good. A good-quality cable will sound MUCH better and louder. If not for the other reviewer (Jazz1) who mentioned this, I probably would have chosen the B&W P7's instead.
Now for the review:
These cans are fantastic, plain and simple. They are incredibly detailed, with an excellent soundstage. The highs are quite bright, like others have mentioned, but that's how I like it. As a comparison, I tested these alongside some B&W P7's for a week, and the P7's are too warm-sounding for me. Having said that, they are as good as the H6's in terms of sound quality. If you prefer a warmer sound, you should test out the P7's.
The bass is definitely there, but not booming. It's good enough that I can listen to something like EDM and not find it lacking, but if you like a lot of bass, again I'd suggest that you try the P7's - they definitely have more.
The H6's are comfortable, even on my biggish head. The clamping force is easy to adjust with some shaping of the head band. Definitely more comfortable than the P7's. I can wear these for 10 hours straight and not feel any discomfort. The P7's hurt after about an hour, no matter what I did to shape the head band.
Also, the 1st gen H6's needed an amp, but these don't. They aren't as efficient as some headphones (the P7's were noticeably louder at the same source output level), but you can definitely use them without an amp. On my phone, I find them plenty loud at around 1/3 volume.
Quick comparisons to some other headphones that I own:
Audio Technica ATH-M50: The H6 sound better and are more comfortable. Crisper sound with more clear bass. The H6 weigh less, too, and are much more portable. I will take my H6's traveling, but I rarely take the ATH-M50's because they are too bulky and the coiled cord is too much to deal with. I know the newer ATH-M50x have a detachable cord, but I can't speak to them, sorry.
Grado SR80e: Not a fair comparison, since the SR80e are open-backed. They will have a more open sound by default. As someone who digs that sort of thing, I love them. However, the don't look as nearly as good as the H6 and their build quality is not as good either, And of course, I could never take them traveling - they leak so much sound (again, they are open-backed!) that I couldn't use them on a plane (and forget about using them in a library). But they're about a third of the price, so if you're just looking for some great sound quality for at home, they're a good option.
