PLS HVR505 R Kit is a fully automatic, dual slope red beam laser. The HVR505 R is self leveling horizontal-vertical with a 500 foot radius (1000 foot circle) outdoor range with a laser detector (included). Accurate to 1/8-Inch per 100 feet. The laser also features a height of instrument (bump alarm) that can be engage to warn the contractor if the laser has been bumped changing the established benchmark The HVR505 R laser is ideal for short to mid range interior and exterior applications. 4 rotation speeds plus 4 sizes of Fan control. Fan is a partial rotation allowing the laser dot to oscillate back and forth just where you need the information. The advantage of the Fan is the laser can be set up and not interfere with other workers in a different location on the jobsite. Dual slope control allows the laser to be manually sloped on 2 plains independently or together for drainage or a sloped ceiling. The HVR505 R Kit includes laser, detector, remote control, ceiling bracket, target card, 2 battery packs (NIMH and alkaline) NIMH battery charger, case, 5-Feet8 X11 tripod, 16 foot grade rod and operation manual.
Designed for light commercial, residential, and remodeling projects, the compact HVR505 Red rotary laser system from Pacific Laser Systems has a dual slope axis and offers excellent versatility for short and mid-range layout in both interior and exterior applications. Dual slope control allows the laser to be manually sloped on two plains independently or together for drainage or a sloped ceiling.
The HVR505 kit package comes with a 5/8-11 tripod and 16-foot grade rod in addition to the HVD505 laser detector, remote control, two battery packs (one rechargeable NiMH, one alkaline), and a hard carry case. It's also available in a system package that omits the tripod and grade rod. The HVR505 rotary laser measures 7.5 x 8 x 6 inches and weighs 4.9 pounds. All PLS tools are designed and manufactured to meet strict quality control guidelines, and the HVR505 is backed by a three-year limited warranty.
This fully automatic dual-slope rotary laser has an accuracy of ±1/8-inch at 100 feet, and it has a working radius of 500 feet when used in conjunction with the HVD505 laser detector--which helps you capture the laser beam in bright sunlight. Use the included remote control to manage the laser from a distance. The rechargeable NiMH battery pack provides up to 20 hours of use from its four C-sized batteries.
The HVR505 laser features a height of instrument (bump alarm) that can be engaged to warn you if the laser has been bumped changing the established benchmark. It has four rotation speeds, plus four sizes of Fan control, which enables the unit to partially rotate and allow the laser dot to oscillate back and forth just where you need the information. With the Fan mode, the laser can be set up and not interfere with other workers in a different location on the job site.
PLS Benchmark Dampening Ensures Consistent, Reliable Layout Results
Like all PLS point and line laser alignment tools, the HVR505 is fully self-leveling, and it takes full advantage of the patented PLS pendulum design and magnetic dampening to deliver real, usable results. Dampening is the settling down effect on the laser beam, and thanks to this advanced technology, all PLS point and line lasers settle down instantly when moved to a new layout point.
Additionally, this system compensates for job site vibrations caused by compressors, generators, and other heavy equipment, preventing the laser point from "jumping" around and ensuring that your laser delivers accurate, usable information. This helps your team get jobs done right the first time to save you time and money.
Three-Year Limited Warranty
PLS has upgraded its warranty from a single year to a three-year limited warranty. During this warranty period, your PLS product will be repaired or replaced (with the same or similar model at our option), without charge for either parts or labor, through PLS.
If your laser tool ever does need to be serviced, PLS offers fast, 48-hour factory turnaround on repairs or replacements to help ensure that your PLS laser line tool continues to provide accurate performance and improved productivity for the full duration of your career.

Top customer reviews
Therefore when I decided I needed a rotary laser (all of my other units are line lasers), the obvious choice for me was to look at PLS's offerings. This HVR505 seemed to have the feature set I neededat the price point I wanted so I went ahead and ordered it. I'll start with the positives. Love the case, love the fit and finish of the laser itself, the attachments, detector, grade rod, etc. Everything looks and feels like typical PLS quality. I also love the fact that it states right in the manual that the unit 'can be used in the rain' and is 'weather resistant'. In fact, I can't imagine why they don't include this in the description here as it's such a valuable asset in an exterior laser.
When I started to set it up and mess around with it, I began to notice some of the things I did not like. The first of which is/was that the instruction manual leaves quite a bit to be desired. It really just skims over the basics and doesn't give you much detail in regards to how to use some of the more complex features. Don't get me wrong, it'll get you up and running but you'll have to do quite a bit of messing around to figure out some of the other features unless you're already quite familiar with rotary lasers. ***SEE EDIT BELOW*** The next thing I noticed was that to use the laser for plumb lines (vertical) you are supposed to set the unit on it's side (handle up) and the unit will self level. However, the very shape of the unit itself (tapered toward the top) puts the laser far enough out of level (when set on a level surface) that it exceeds the lasers self-leveling parameters. The unit just doesn't have enough range to self-level to compensate for it's tapered shape. Therefore, to use the unit in plumb mode, you must either shim underneath it or set up a tripod and use the horizontal bracket. You can't just plop it on the floor like we often do with our line lasers when we just need to quickly check a layout or plumb something up a couple stories.
The other thing I noticed about it that made me think, "really? seriously?" is that while the remote control will allow you to make all sorts of complicated adjustments to the laser.... it doesn't have an on/off button! Seriously? I think I'd rather have a remote whose ONLY function was to turn the laser on and off from a distance.
Unfortunately I already threw away all of the boxes that this thing came in and can't return it, otherwise I think I'd be looking elsewhere for a rotary unit. Therfore, as I use this more I will add to this review as I notice more things I like about it and don't like about it. I'm really hoping that over time I find that it's good qualities outweigh it's bad ones... but right now I'm not so sure. The two issues I pointed out seem like a pretty big deal to me right now and seem so simple/stupid that I can't believe they actually exist. Time will tell... I'll let you know.
***EDIT*** Regarding using the laser for plumb (vertical) layout: The instructions are just wrong. In the instructions they clearly show that the laser is to be positioned handle up for vertical use. In playing around with it I discovered that this is incorrect. If you lay the laser keypad up, handle to the right, the unit will self level and project a plumb vertical line. The side opposite the key pad has standoffs which compensate for the shape of the unit and allow it to self-level. So things are looking up.
