After about two weeks of preparation, I passed the PMP exam. Through that time, I used several sources. I spent a week doing self-study using Jennifer Greene and Andrew Stellman's Head First PMP: A Brain-Friendly Guide to Passing the Project Management Professional Exam. I then went through a week-long prep class. To say I did a lot of practice questions and exams is an understatement. The weekend before the actual exam (I took it on a Monday), I almost exclusively practiced the questions from PMP: Practice Makes Perfect. I must say, this book was a great complement to all the other study material I had. The first section of the book, which consists of some fill-in-the-blanks, true/false, and matching, really helps to assess where one is in terms of knowing the PMBOK material. The full-length practice exams in the book (there's 4 total with slightly over 200 questions in each) very closely resemble the types of questions on the exam. I would say that out of all the many practice exam questions that I went through from a variety of sources, the questions in Practice Makes Perfect, in my opinion, were most similar to the actual exam in terms of level of difficulty, wording, and scope. Knowing the material is obviously the most important thing to passing the test. Next to that, it's extremely important to practice the questions. This book is one of the best resources I had to do the latter.

I think I was one of the 1st people to purchase this book couple of months back. Now that I am done with my exam few months back and putting all my PMP books on Amazon, I decided to write few words only on this book. Because that was one of the books that I wasn't sure to buy or not, and glad I did. The exam is very close to this book. And I did purchase many exam books and online tests. Exam had long questions that was very similar to ones in this book. not to say that others are bad... but this is a really good book to prepare for the PMP exam. Best Wishes with your exam

Belongs to the PMbok 4th Edition which makes it obsollete. The existing PMP Exam from PMI is based in the 5th Edition. The worse part is that in your advertising of this book does not say anything. So I assumed that it was the last version. I don't undestand who will purchase a book like this if it is not updated.
Thanks for allowing me to write my comments.

Please note that I am taking the test on Friday, and cannot yet compare this book to the exam. I would like to review this book in light of all the study materials I have worked with. I must say that you NEED to do practice tests, which this book offers. If you are an experienced project manager, you will be tempted to answer many questions on common-sense or best practice in your own environment. You may also not realize what you need to study, because it may seem as if you know something like the back of your hand (say, Quality), but you do not know what the PMP exam expects you to memorize (like the names of people who invented quality techniques). That was me before I started taking practice exams - thinking I really knew this stuff because I do it day in and day out. It was the practice exams and answer keys that helped me with the trick questions, the question formats and answers designed to trip you up, and all the times where common-sense doesn't equal the correct answer.

I had another test preparation book, that had its own exams on CD. While I loved the CD format, their explanations of right and wrong answers didn't come close to PMP Practice Makes Perfect. I also exhausted the questions in an online learning "TestPrep" I had access to, and took several free exams online.

Over time, I kept track of my scores. I was at a steady plateau with scores averaging around 67%, not passing scores I am sure!

Over this week, I have taken a practice exam every night from this book. Both nights, I scored myself, and noted questions where I wanted to read the answers to regardless of my score, as well as any other potential answers. Then, I read the answer key, understanding why my answers were right or wrong.

This was a useful resource in passing the PMP exam. While I take issue with some of the answers, this book provided great practice questions. There were some questions that did not seem to be part of the PMBOK material but overall these were good questions. I did not like that the questions were often not asked at random. Instead you will find several questions about one topic in a row.

I would recommend this book if you are already comfortable with the material since the explanations typically offer little more than reference to where you should be able to find the answer in the PMBOK.

I've reviewed a few other books of similar kind. I'm glad that I chose this book to purchase from Amazon.com. I find it very helpful in reinforcing concepts learnt from text books. A great way to help one prepare for the PMP exam.
