EDIT: And after about 8 months of ownership and maybe a dozen uses, the reader fell apart a few days ago.
I never really realized just how useful it could be to be able to plug a thumbdrive into both a PC and a smart phone...
Seriously, this is one handy little tool.
I moved it to a Mac and it never showed up. I put the SD card in a GoPro camera and when powered on gave a memory card error. It showed no recording time available. A 128GB card usually gives me 11.5 hours of video recording time at 720p.
I'm hoping I don't need to do a return to Amazon on this and PNY steps up to take care of this like it seems they have for other reviewers.
I have other older PNY 128 mSD cards but when I went to buy one, it said this was an updated version.
I've got a second one on the way, bought at the same time but without the Duo-Link reader, so it's shipping from another warehouse/seller. I'm eager to see if that one is a failure too.
UPDATE: The second card arrived the next day, with a standard adapter, not the USB reader. I first put the new arrival in the GoPro and it read it fine. I then loaded the first 'defective' card and the camera read it this time - no errors. I then checked each card and some others I had on hand in the SD adapter and then the USB reader - they all worked and showed the advertised capacity. I haven't tried read/write speed tests so I won't talk to that point but as long as the camera can use them and record for the full time, I'm satisfied.
As a bare SD card (meaning not in the USB adapter), it's been hit-or-miss. It spends its time plugged into an Intel stick computer (in the USB adapter) and it works fine there, but that same computer has yet to recognize it in the SD slot. (Granted, I stopped trying after I'd determined that it would work fine while in its USB adapter.) A 5+ year old Toshiba laptop wouldn't recognize it in its SD slot (with the microSD card in an full-size SD card adapter I got with another microSD card) until after I'd formatted it as NTFS in that Intel stick computer (again, while it was in the USB adapter). A (less old) Lenovo stick computer does basically the same thing, although it's very slow to recognize and mount it, when I put it directly into the microSD slot (which isn't normal for that computer).
It it weren't for the fact that it works fine in the USB adapter, I'd think it was junk. This was my first PNY SD card, but I've used PNY video cards before and been happy with them. But the next time I need an SD card, I think I'll just stick with SanDisk.
Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you may be having issues with some of your SD card readers and it may be that these readers do not support (or do not fully support) SDXC format. Please check the card readers (such as the one on the 5 year old Toshiba) and see if you see an indication by the SD slot that it is SDXC compatible. If it does not say this or says "SD/MMC" it is most likely not compatible with SDXC cards.
