Purchased in 2014, used it lightly but most recently as a boot drive in a laptop re-purposed as a file server. It was on 24/7 but idling since data was being pulled to/from an external hdd, and then out of nowhere the computer crashed and every attempt to boot would bluescreen a couple seconds in. And then the laptop would not boot at all. Couldn't get it to recognize the ssd. Tried two more computers and neither of those could recognize the ssd either (using a working sata->usb bridge as well as native sata interface). Contacted PNY and shipped the drive back to them, hopefully going to get a replacement.
At this point there is no reason to buy the OG PNY XLR8 drives because they are massively overpriced (0.50c / GB? no thank you). These SSDs are not magical and have some awful failure rates. They are not the fastest either, and especially for the money in 2016 you can get a faster & more reliable drive from any of the major vendors.
You would be a total *FOOL* if you buy one of these in 2016.
So frankly I can't trust a drive that died so fast, I also purchased two other drives one was a M500 and Munchksin SSD around the same time for my other machines they are all running great.
I'm disappointed with this drive and I have lost hope in having it as the main drive on any of my machines. Let's see how the warranty process is I will update when I go through that.

This SSD installed fine and has been running great until a couple weeks ago when Windows 8.1 began reporting SMART event errors. (That means drive failure is imminent.) I called PNY support about the problem. They agreed that the drive needed to be replaced under the 3-year warranty. HOWEVER, I would have had to send my drive to them FIRST before they would send me a replacement, taking 7-10 days! The other option (which I reluctantly took) was to pay a non-refundable $30 fee for them to send me a new replacement drive (and charge me full price) over night. They will refund the cost of the new drive when they receive my defective drive that I have to ship back to PNY at MY expense (on top of the $30 fee they charged).
The new replacement drive is working fine so far. Thankfully, Windows has a (somewhat hidden) utility that allowed me to create a drive image of my failing SSD that it stored on my other data drive (an internal WD Blue Caviar 1-TB drive). Then, by starting the PC using my Windows install disc and selecting the repair tools, I was able to quickly restore the drive image perfectly to the new SSD in just a few minutes. (It is a shame Windows hides this excellent feature so well, as it is incredibly useful in such a situation. It really should be an easy-to-find option in Control Panel's Recovery or Backup tools. Before I discovered this, I tried the open-source program, DriveImage XML, that didn't really work very well.)
In summary, I will probably not by another PNY SSD in the future after my experience with this drive "failing" so quickly and with PNY's lousy warranty policy (the $30 should have included a pre-paid return shipping label, at the least).
UPDATE 6/2015: The replacement drive completely died without warning this time! Even the computer's BIOS did not recognize the drive. Tried it with different cables and even in different computers. Completely dead. So did another cross-shipment with PNY to get yet a third drive (under warranty) and had to pre-pay the cost of the drive ($103.63) plus another $30 non-refundable shipping charge. PNY received my defective drive (I have proof from USPS) but they have as yet to refund the cost of the drive to my credit card!
I will definitely never buy another PNY product, and if this latest drive breaks again, I'll just buy a different brand, despite the continued 3-year PNY warranty. Just not worth the hassle. Non of my other SSDs (from different manufacturers) have ever given my any problems. And I'm not hard on these drives. I just use my computers for business productivity and photo editing. No gaming, etc.
UPDATE 6/2016: Third time's the charm (not)! Second replacement drive died, again, without warning, in same computer, about a year later! This time, I replaced it with a Samsung but did return it since it was still under warranty. PNY sent me a replacement. I will not use it. My time and hassle aren't worth it.
