Died with error "CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES" but disk attributes say "Read-Only = No"

"CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES"
The drive was purchased in March 2017. It was loaded with files but not to Maximum capacity, there was room to add more files.
In October 2017 the drive was having data integrity issues, files on the drive could not be found.
I saved everything to my hard drive and reformatted the PNY 64 gig to exFat. At that point the drive failed with a "CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES" error.
When the disk attribute "Read-Only" = "No" the disk is still in a "CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES".
"Diskpart" did not resolve the issue.
The disk cannot be written to.

ZERO STARS - This product worked for the first few days then lost all the info on the drive and never worked again. Attempts at Formatting just fail. PNY products are JUNK! I have bought Solid State Hard Drives and they fail within weeks/months. I generally give a product a 2nd chance with time and PNY has gotten more than a fair shake and let me down every time. PNY = Time, Trouble, and Money lost. In other words, if a person (like myself) is thinking that they will save a little money, they are wrong. I have now learned to stay with the REAL name brands (Crucial, Kingston) when I need a memory product.

WOW this thing is slow
I purchased this to use on a raspberry pi - so I was not that concerned about the speed, but when plugging into windows 10 and trying for quick format it it takes about a minute before the process actually starts

Also takes at least a minute for the device to be recognized when you plug it in

saving files to it via download is also painfully slow

Copying files to it was like being on a dial up modem in 1982- I was getting about 128k transfers (OK probably faster than a 300 baud modem - but you get the point)

i purchased this 10 pack of PNY drives as a way to gift loads of pictures and files with family this year. The drives all seem to run between 1-6 MB/s which is far from the standard 60MB/s speed of USB 2.0 drive standards. I understood this was a cheaper drive but this is a bit ridiculous and should not be advertised as a USB 2.0 but i guess since it is faster then the standard 1.5 MB/s speed of USB 1.0 it technically is USB 2.0 sort of. Besides this fact the slide on the USB drive to open and close it is extremely stiff and it feels like i'm going to break it everytime i open and close it. The slide also seems to get stuck half way open/close but it will fully open and close if you force it. Overall I can't totally complain for the price as long as they dont fail to read or write after i give them out as gifts and don't become corrupted. If they start failing or having issues like some other reviews have mentioned these are worthless. If you could afford to pay a little extra there are better drives out there for around $5 each here on Amazon. I was able to get these drives for $3.5 each ($35 for the 10) on sale. If it's in the typical $45-54 range that this 10 pack normally sits at i would pass.

I've bought PNY drives for 20 years - only brand I use. I've even bought this five pack before: worked great!! In fact, I still have the very first USB drive I bought: it was a PNY 256 Mb drive and I paid around $23.00 for it. Yeah, it's THAT OLD. But it still works (not that I use it regularly any more, but I just checked it and it still works!) But this batch is defective. If you have REALLY strong hands you can slide the clear portion back so you can use the drive. But you'll never close it back without breaking the slide portion - or at least, the three adults in my household (which includes two adult males) could not do so. We stopped short so that we didn't break anything. Suggest you hold off on these until Amazon gets rid of this defective batch.....the previous recent complaints about the drives not opening & closing correctly are sadly still accurate. I'm returning mine......

It's a big, relatively slow flash drive. It works well and I filled it to capacity and read back to make sure it is legit. My only minor issue with it is that it detects slowly. Most flash drives (even my 64GB PNY Attache) detect right away and are usable within a 5 seconds of being plugged in. This one takes about 10 seconds, then windows shows a dialog about installing it, and 20-30 seconds after it is plugged in you can use it. Not a huge deal, but it means that my 64GB is still my 'daily driver' with the 128GB being used for large files that are not used frequently. Also, one old computer with USB 1.1 didn't detect it at all, but did work with the 64GB Attache...but that's probably just a limitation of that ancient computer.

I have used this drive a hand full of times since I bought it to copy and store files, seems to have been a decent drive. USB drives in general are pretty basic so not expecting much in terms of problems. Today when I put the drive into my computer it wouldn't read and then when I went and grabbed it to pull it out my computer shut down. When I looked closer at the drive I noticed that the thin memory board had slid up inside the metal outer casing and that the metal had touched the USB contacts on the computer causing the shutdown. I needed the files so I pried the plastic housing off and realized that little was used to actually hold the memory in place. I only gave it 2 stars because I was able to still use the memory by wedging paper between the memory board and the metal housing keeping it tight. Not worth returning and dealing with PNY.

I plan on buying a few more drives to replace this, needless to say they wont be PNY brand anymore

Buena memoria, de una buena marca, lo único que no me gustó es que es USB 2.0 y la tasa de transferencia es bastante baja, alrededor de 4 mb por segundo, en copiar un archivo de 1.6 GB quería usar casi 7 minutos. pero dado que la capacidad no es tan grande, no le veo tanto problema, la calidad de la memoria en general es muy buena salvo que estando nuevas el método retráctil para contraer la memoria en el protector está tan duro que a veces duele poder volver a taparla, no dudo con el tiempo se ponga más facil.

It lasted a little over a year with barely any usage. I backed up some files on it, stored it away, plugged it back in when I needed them, copied my files to my computer, and then I noticed I couldn't remove anything from the USB flash drive nor copy anything to it. It says it's "write protected". There is no visible locking switch anywhere.

I tried a million things and I managed to format it, but whenever I create one file or copy one thing to it, it goes back to "write protected" mode. I tried on 3 different computers, each one having Windows and a Linux distro (W10/Arch, W10/Debian, W10/Manjaro) as well as on my Raspberry Pi, but there's nothing I can do. It's unusable in this state.

The next step I'm going to try (since it's a paperweight anyway) is break off the casing and look for an on-board locking switch.

It worked for about a year of not much use, then it became impossible to write anything new or delete existing files. Went through troubleshooting, but there's something wrong with the drive itself.

It's slow, but that's to be expected for USB 2.0 and more noticeable for 64GB. Too bad, because it was a good drive.
