The real PNY 32GB microSD card has white edging. The fake one has black edging.
The grey part of the fake card is very slightly darker than the grey part of the real card.
The sideways running striations (almost microscopic ridges) on the front side of the real card, which are difficult to see unless the light is angled suitably, are nonetheless more visible than they are on the fake card. Also, these striations can be seen running across the white 32 on the real card, but they are obscured (covered) by the printing of the number on the fake card.
On the fake card, the taper on the underslung part of the P, where it merges with the left vertical stroke of the letter, is slightly thicker than it is on the real card.
On the reverse sides, the reflection of light from the gold contacts is relatively more specular (mirrory) on the fake card, but it is relatively more Lambertian (more spread out) on the real card.
There is some unusual scratching damage (or abrasion) on the contacts of the fake card, and I'm guessing that this might have something to do with its being selected by the fakers to be a fake card. There is no unusual damage to the contacts of the real card.
EDIT, 25 July 2017. I received an additional eight PNY 16 GB microSD cards, and every single one of them is fake, with very slow write speeds. I recommend avoiding this brand entirely until the inventories of all the sellers is cleaned up.
Speeds: Fast USB3 in my Surface Pro. 1GB Sequential Read = about 88 MB/s. Seq write a bit disappointing, only about 17 MB/s (I'd hoped for maybe 25-30) but in the real world this'll have no measurable effect on my work. One additional (and slightly more "serious") disappointment though - I didn't realize that the adapter is USB2. It works in a USB3 port, but at only USB2 speeds. One star off for that.
