I am an x51 R1 with 330w power supply owner, and after doing quite a bit of research, this is the card I decided on. My x51 came with the GTX 660 OEM which over the last few months began to fail. I really would have liked to get a GTX 970. but there have just been too many reports of problems with that card not working with R1s. The 960 is the best card that Dell actually says is compatible with the x51 R1. This PNY is the only single blower GTX 960 4GB VRAM card that will work with the x51 R1 as far as I know. I also considered the single blower MSI GTX 960, but it only has 2GB of VRAM, although everything else is basically the same. Since the PNY is only about $25 more than the MSI (at least when I bought it), I think it's definitely worth getting that extra 2GB of VRAM- it is going to pay off in the long run as more games get more demanding with their VRAM requirements. I am already seeing some very nice performance gains over my old 660, and am hoping this will extend the life of my x51 by at least another year, or at least until Pascal really gets fully established in the marketplace, at which point I'll probably get a whole new system.

I installed this in my Alienware X51 (R1 upgraded to an R2 power board, although it should work fine in an R1). I upgraded from an OEM GTX 660.

At the default fan configuration, the card can get very hot - during a 45 minute session of Far Cry 4 it hit up to 83c, although it didn't stay at that temp (it would average to the high 70's) - far too hot for my taste. With EVGA Precision X, I set an "aggressive" fan profile, and this helped keep temps into the mid 70's, but the fan was very audible. I don't blame the heating issue on the card, but due to the small form factor of the X51.

As far as the card itself, it runs great so far and is a definite upgrade from my GTX 660. For example, my GTX 660 1.5GB OEM card could run Far Cry 4 at 1920x1200 (my monitor's native resolution) with everything set to low and/or disabled. Even then it would stutter at times (I'm aware of the stuttering issues with this game). With this GTX 960, I can run it at the same resolution with everything set to high (shadows on Medium), Tree relief and fur enabled, AA off, Godrays off, and Ambient Occlusion set to SSAO - pretty decent for a mid-range card.

Games like Bioshock Infinite, Shadow of Mordor, Batman Arkham Asylum / City, Tomb Raider, etc. all run at maximum possible settings, flawlessly - these games don't push the temps as hard either (for whatever reason), staying in the mid 60--70c range.

On a side note, I just purchased these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ2J2K0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - the measurements of these fans will fit perfectly under the X51 (or on the side, if not sitting vertically). I plan to prop the X51 up a bit off the desk by letting it rest on two small raiser's (a book on both ends will work too) at the very front and back, just resting on the edges of the case, and then stick these two fans underneath (use velcro command strips or something). This should help with the cooling quite a bit, by blowing cooler air directly into the case, from under the graphics card.

Overall, a decent card. If upgrading from a GTX 660 or older, I would definitely recommend it (unless you can spend another $100+ to get the GTX 970).

UPDATE: I just used EVGA Precision X to overclock this card to 160+ settings (I left the mem-clock and voltage at the default zero setting), for a total of 1484mhz core clock. I also set the aggressive fan profile. I just played Far Cry 4 in 1080p, with everything on high (including AO and anti-aliasing on their minimum settings) with no artifacts! Plus, the temps stayed at or below 75c. I'll get those two 80mm fans Friday, so I'll report back if that helps th temps any. So far, a great card!

UPDATE #2: Just for my code for The Witcher 3 - fully registered with my gog.com account! Can't wait until May 19th to download and play!

Awesome card.
Nice price point also. I couldn't spend 300 on a card but this can still easily play most games at max settings at 60 fps.
Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, GTA5, just to list some popular ones.

I would recommend to anybody buying a card for 4k gaming, you will need to get the 4GB version.
I did not need that so the 2GB is perfect for me.

Got this for my Alienware X51 R1. This is the best card I am able to get for it. The reference model runs hot when under load at around 78-80C, This is because the air flow and fresh air intake is super terrible, I put the cars in another computer and it runs much cooler with more access to fresh air, but in no danger of overheating. I got the 4GB because why not? It is a great card. I got it to max out the settings on my older games and play the new DOOM 4, I am able to play that on ULTRA 1080p with about 60-75 fps constant. The quality of the card is nice, took the cover off to look inside. I would recommend this card or any GTX960 to those that want to game in 1080p and to all X51 R1 owners.
It has a single 6 pin PCI connector and is very quiet.

Fantastic value vid card performance. One little drawback though... The 2gb of vram is really not enough for gaming in 2017. If you are willing to turn the settings down a bit, or only play games from before 2016 or so, and don't do much modding, it is a solid card, even in February 2017. Also really surprising how fast and cool an overclock you can tune if you have that desire. Also it can be run in SLI, unlike the newer 1050 or 1060... Which is why it is being replaced for an AMD rx 480 8gb... Sorry Nvidia, but ya want too much money, when DX12 and Vulkan enable AMD to come within 10 or 20 percent of your high end cards for 1/3 the price...

This thing is ridiculously loud. It's driving everyone in my house crazy because you can even hear it through doors! I have to blast my volume now on every game just to hear over this card's fans, which for some reason constantly run close to 100%.

Performance wise, this card doesn't offer much more power than my previous Nvidia 660, however, it does fit inside the 2011 Alienware x51.

Also, I've notes some severe, but rare stutters that may be from the card, or the current driver.

My personal recommendation, get this card if you have the 2011 model x51. However if you have a good sized case, dont waste the money on this adequate card.

Saludos.
