These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. Don't I feel silly!

I should have read the reviews before purchasing these SODIMMS for my mid-2007 Mac Mini.

I installed the memory and for about an hour the system was running just fine. After a couple of shutdowns it stopped working and I was getting a flashing light indicating bad memory. After removing one of the DIMMS the system came back normally. I installed a spare 2GB DIMM I had laying around here and it worked just ducky! Again no big I figure I'll return the defective DIMM for a replacement. I went to do the whole RMA thing with Amazon and the system would NOT allow me to return this item! WTH is up with that!?! Are you telling me that if I buy a defective product I can't return it for exchange? That's not very cool if you ask me and I've been an Amazon customer for many years.

Which brought me back to the reviews and I read that these DIMMS are actually 800 MHz and not 667 as required by the system. The spare DIMM I put in the system is 667 so based on the reviews here and I can testify to it, the computer is fat dumb and happy. Hmmm go figure. So I guess I'll stay with the mis-matched vendor DIMMS until such time that I can get another matched pair. System is happy. Owner is not.

Well I guess you need to look at why people write the 1 star - WORST reviews to see what the issues can be with a product - but with such a high rating overall - well there I was - in need of memory for my wife's MacBook and here's PNY a known trusted brand I've used many times in PCs - with the correct MacBook information DDR2 PC5300 667MHz - great price ...

Then reality strikes when you get your memory, put it in and it doesn't work .. OMG ... then you tend to go back to the negative reviews and low and behold - almost all those 1-Star reviews are jerks like me who didn't read the 1 Star reviews to begin with! No offense intended for the brilliant ones who didn't read those reviews :-|

PNY seems to have convinced themselves that 800MHz is close enough to work with all those same lower clocked systems out there ... not the case for dear old Macbooks ...

I hope this saves you from going through this same puddle yourself - though Amazon is helpful on returns etc. its not quite as nice as having a hug from an appreciative wife with a no hassle memory upgrade to her aging Mac... onwards!

**** A happy end of story - I ordered this memory after posting this review - Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 667 MHz (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory (VS4GSDSKIT667D2) - it arrived the next day (THANK YOU AMAZON!) - stuck it in the Macbook - my wife smiled as it booted up smooth and fast ... and we went out for a great dinner ... ;-)

When it comes to buying ram the only thing that really matters is the warranty the provider offers. Brand name really doesn't matter, just that you can trust the company to deliver a quality product that matches the description. I am a computer sciences major, I know for a fact 75% of ram is all made in the same factory, probably somewhere in Asia. Always just buy the most affordable product with the best warranty. Ram should never fail if properly cared for. I have been pleased with the PNY DDR2 PC-6400 2x2gb kit.
::CAUTION::
If you need DDR2 PC-5300 memory, stay away from PNY, they package DDR2 PC-6400 mem as PC-5300. I can assure you that your mac or pc will underclock the ram to the proper speed and it will run fine, but it is a dishonest move on PNY to package higher speed ram as a lower speed. They do this because now that ddr3 is the norm, ddr2 pc5300 is less used. it is much cheaper to only carry one kind of ram and package it as two different speeds.

2 X 2GB in my Dell 9400 E1705

We had read articles online that you could upgrade our Dell E1705 aka DELL 9400 laptop to 3.25 GB of memory .We had 2 GB already installed when memory chips were much higher during the large Japan earthquake.Dell states only 2 GB can be installed .

We quickly removed the 2 x 1 GB chips we had previously installed and easily installed the new memory chips.
Our computer is only 32 bit and using windows xp pro we was only able to get approx 3.25 GB shown in memory
When we turned on the computer it came up with the line about having had a change in memory and waited for the computer to do its thing to acknowledge the extra memory .We turned computer off and turned it back on and we now had 3.25 GB of memory . I believe this was money well spent even though it gained only 1.25 GB of memory .I feel like I have stolen extra reserve of memory with the $47.00 purchase .
UPDATE UPDATE
My next purchase we just ordered from Amazon today is a Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s with Data Transfer Kit CT128M4SSD2CCA after reading many reviews from others on AMAZON this will speed up my laptop enough to keep me spending megabucks on a new laptop and replace my smaller 60 GB harddrive . I have seen and heard online it will be a painless install and with the TRANSFER KIT will allow me to CLONE the new drive before we install it putting my original 60 GB Hard drive away for a nice backup in a static free bag.
