It barely sticks out of the SD port. Just enough to grip with the thumb/finger to pull it out. It does not interfere when using my MB on my lap. No fear of breaking it. You could not break it even if you tried without a pliers. I really do not notice it. I put my photos and music on it which does not need the speed of the internal SSD. The 128GB version would be perfect for doing a full backup of a 128GB MB Air. I'm going to try to run VM from it.
I returned my MB Air and bought a MB Pro at a black Friday BB sale.
MB Air 2013
it is nearly flush
Only slightly noticeable.
Does not need removed for transport
MB Pro 2013 Retina
It sticks out about 1/4 inch
Need to remove for transport.
It is still very usable on MB Pro and much better than a full-size SD.
Read 4.11 GB file from card to desktop 40 secs
Write 4.11 GB file to card from desktop 85 secs
The looks of it is pretty good, it pretty much just looks like you have a cap over your sd card. i wish apple made it spring loaded so this could be even smaller, no harm no foul.
my biggest problem is speed. Blackmagic has this running at 32mb/s write (YES YES YES), 37mb/s read (NO NO NO!) How can PNY make read speeds so slow?
So it performs excellently, but it did come with one minor problem. Despite specifically being marketed toward "MacBooks" and the package explicitly saying "Mac Formatted," the flash drive arrived in ExFAT format evidently from a Windows XP machine, which means when I tried to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) I ran into the "read-only" bug that Macs have with ExFAT drives from XP machines. It was locked into a read-only mode and my disk utility refused to do anything to it. After hours of research I found that I had to either take it to a Windows machine to reformat it (none within my sphere of friends and family) or I had to boot from an OS X Installer DVD and reformat it from there. My MacBook is too new for DVDs, so eventually I found I could use a bootable thumb drive with the Mavericks installer - but only after hours of frustration and research. Everything is good now, but I wasn't too thrilled at what I had to go through to make it good.
I compensated by learning how to use Box, Dropbox and One Drive. (I refuse to pay for cloud storage.)
Then I read an article promoting the mini-drive; but at a cost of $30 and another $130 for a 128 GB micro SD card I passed.
That brings me to this PNY drive: Browsing Amazon I saw this for $80 and based on the positive reviews I bought it immediately.
I’ve only had this for a few weeks so I can’t comment on longevity of this product; but so far it works smoothly. I use it to store a large music collection and playback is seamless. It has double the storage of my MacBook. It is much easier than cloud storage and is always there; even when I don’t have Internet access.
To answer a few questions:
1) I use it on a MacBook Air (the 2013 model)
2) It is not ‘flush’ like some of the other options but fits snugly in the port
3) But it only sticks out by about 2 mm
4) It reads 128.2 GB of usable memory
Point 4 is amazing to me. I’ve bought laptops with 500 GB memory only to have 150 GB used up before I even turn it on.
If you are a MacBook user who, like me, didn’t buy extra memory this is a great expansion option.

Amazingly handy for your macbook, yet 5mm shorter would be even better. Everyone knows that macbooks have too little SDD space. This is handy way to expand it. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Multis
Great. This has doubled my storage for my Macbook Air. So problems. Just sits in my computer. I don't even notice it being there. Read morePublished 3 months ago by J.Park
Completely broken after two months of use. And not just unreadable—physically trashed. All I did was put it in my late 2013 Macbook Pro, which I use daily, but I work in an office... Read morePublished 3 months ago by Brian
Looks like a cheap drive expansion for a macbook. And it would be. If only it wasn't so very slow relative to the macbook internal flashdrive.Published 5 months ago by Joost Okkinga

Fits very flush in my MBA and the speeds are great. It's flush enough that I never need to take it out when I put it in my Incase sleeve or anything like that. Read morePublished 11 months ago by QT
happy to have the space, but even though it says "ideal for 13" Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, and Macbook Pro with Retina Display" it most definitely is not. Read morePublished 11 months ago by Randi Friedman
