Response to commenters that "up to 90" means that 60 is legitimate: "up to" means it's limited by your device speed. It does not imply that there is a quality variance among cards and that you might get a 60, might get a 90, etc....
Call me old fashion, but i like a product to be true to its specs. Ya know... not misleading or outright false advertising. Unfortunately that's exactly what PNY has done with this card, as well as lied about it. I have been very happily using other PNY cards, and was very excited to try out this new 'Turbo' line. Unfortunately it's going right back, both for the performance, and the lack of either intelligence or ethics (or perhaps both) of the company.
This review may sound like nitpicking an otherwise perfectly fine speed, but in my trade: 4k video & high speed photography, write speeds are what matter
Have a look at my 3 attached photos, and you'll clearly see what i'm talking about. This card in several places has been advertised to be variations of 90/up to 90mb/sec WRITE speed. I'm well aware of the trickiness of companies advertising read/write speeds, so i contacted them to double check that there wasn't an error/typo.Read more ›
Short answer: it doesn't.
I used a UHS-compatible card reader (the Transcend RDF5) and benchmarked both cards on an USB 3.0 port. Here are my results:
- PNY High Performance card: Read=92.5MB/s, Write=58.3MB/s
- PNY Turbo Performance card: Read=91.6MB/s, Write=54.5MB/s
(See the screenshots I uploaded for benchmark details)
As we can see, the Read/Write speeds of these two cards are essentially identical, or at least within variation of benchmark runs. At the time of my purchases, the High Performance card was priced about 20% lower. Therefore I consider it a much better value.
- The capacity of this '32GB' card, as reported by my computer, is just 29.8GB. This is actually normal because computer people count one 'Gig' as "2 to the power 30", which is 7.3% larger than one billion. So 29.8GB come to about 32 billion bytes.
- The card I received is made in Korea and covered by "Lifetime Limited Warranty". This is reassuring, although I won't make it a big deal whether the warranty says '1-year' or 'lifetime'.Read more ›
