POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is the Only Product that REALLY Stops Rust Permanently! POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is designed for application directly on prepped rusted, sandblasted, and seasoned metal surfaces. It dries to a rock-hard, non-porous finish that won’t chip, crack, or peel, and it prevents rust from recurring by protecting metal from further exposure to moisture. POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is sensitive to UV light and must be top coated when prolonged exposure to sunlight is possible. Top coating is not required for areas not exposed to sunlight.

POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating
Use as part of the POR-15 3-Step System for Permanent results
The ultimate rust preventive system for permanent corrosion protection. Shields metal in just 3 easy steps, clean it, prep it, and coat it.
- Step 1: POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser removes grease, oil, dirt & grime in one application without leaving residues, or flammable solvents.
- Step 2: POR-15 Metal Prep provides the best adhesion for POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating on any metal surface.
- Step 3: POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is a high performance coating designed for application directly on stable rust or seasoned metal surfaces.

Proper application of POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating using the 3-Step System
Step 1: Clean it!
Remove loose rust and degrease surface with water-based POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser
Step 2: Prep it!
Neutralize rust and etch it with POR-15 Metal Prep. Thoroughly wash with water and dry.
Step 3: Coat it!
When surface is dry, apply POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating right onto the rust with two or three thin coats!
For areas exposed to U.V. light - Topcoat it
Topcoat with POR-15 Top Coat, POR-15 2K Urethane, or other top coat of your choice. Top Coat the POR-15 Rust preventive while it is tacky for proper adhesion.
* LABORATORY TEST RESULTS
POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating was tested for 168 hours at 97°F in a condensing humidity salt spray (ASTM B117). At the end of the test period, coated steel was free of rust or pitting. Acid and alkali resistance tests performed found panels coated with POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating to be impervious to gasoline, oil, chromic acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide, caustic soda, 50% sulfuric acid, and 50% hydrofluoric acid. POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating was applied over a rusty substrate as a finish coat (approximately 23 mils dry film thickness). The coating showed essentially no undercutting at the scribed area after 2000 hours in a weatherometer*.
A 2 mil thickness of POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating was applied to lightly rusted steel and then exposed for 1000 hours to a salt spray. At the end of the test period, no undercutting was observed at the scribed area. Recoatability is excellent. Laboratory tests have shown very good adhesion when applied up to 14 days after application of the first coat. In an actual Field test, a topcoat was applied 6 weeks after the first coat had been applied, and the intercoat adhesion was excellent as determined by a crosshatch tape test. A metal box used as a filter for raw sewage was coated with POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating and placed in service within a few hours after the interior and exterior were coated. No visible rusting occurred at the welded areas after a six month exposure.
A POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating coating was subjected to 450°F for 10 hours; it remained hard and showed no apparent loss of adhesion. A panel subjected to elongation was pulled beyond the yield point of the base metal without affecting the POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating coating.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Last year, I destroyed a can trying to open it. I dumped the remaining into a small plastic jug for later use. Upon opening the container later, it was hardened. Don't make the same mistake. The smaller cans are a little more but if you end up throwing out half a can, your ahead of the game.
Read the can and follow the instructions for gods sake.
Use a respirator, a real one with proper filters or risk isocyanides entering your lungs and hardening, thus suffocating you.
Massive ventilation is required.
Don't get it on your skin or clothes. It's tough to get off.
I buy cheapy brushes and throw them out after.
Pour an amount into a container and use that. Seal the can immediately after wiping every little bit off the can and lid.
Lots of users complain of destroying the can upon reopening. It won't happen if you clean it all off before closing it.
This product will stick to most any clean surface and sticks best to rusty prepared metal.
If you think this product is too expensive, check out the price of any automotive top coat by the quart. Materials have gotten pricey, but buy quality stuff and do it once. Good luck.
Cons: If you don't wear good rubber gloves while applying it, you will be wearing POR-15 for the next few weeks. Any drips that make it to a concrete garage floor are permanently part of the floor once set.
Advice: If you have any left after use, put a few layers of plastic wrap over the top before the lid. Otherwise, the lid will be permanently attached to the can.
Only thing to add with everyone else, this stuff STAINS ANYTHING IT TOUCHES. So just be cautious and wear the right equipment, and protect things you don't want coated black cause this stuff can run and drip.
Overall, best investment you can make to protect metal from rust.

Just make sure you cover up well and are really careful when applying this, as it is very watery and will spray everywhere when applied messily with a brush and stains like ****! I foolishly managed to get a load on my hands a week before my sister's wedding. I tried everything to get it off with no joy. Looked like I had been henna'd! :-) Had to wait until the skin fell off after about a fortnight!
Finished the tin off recently by painting straight over my completely rusted BBQ. It went on straight away (great coverage), and no sign of the rust being able to bubble through.
I have restored a vintage Ferrari with this stuff, a fiat 500 and even coated my old cast drain pipes with it.
Use metal prep solution first from por15 before you use this and take care not to get it on your skin as thinners or paint stripper will not remove it and it goes a very long way.
I can definitely vouch for this product and I live in Scotland near the se where it rains most of the time.
I wouldn't use anything else as rust proofing goes as this is the best there is.
