I just had a carpenter friend try this saw and he cut the line perfectly. I hate to make this review into a novel but I want to be fair. Maybe I just need to practice with this and it is not a defect in the saw. Meanwhile I contacted a Porter-Cable service center not far away and he offered to check it out to be sure it works properly so I am going back to my first impression.

I have to downgrade this item as I noticed that the laser and blade are not aligned. I tried to find an adjustment, but I could not, so I went online to Porter-cable website and got no help there. They show how to adjust the kerf guide but I guess I am stuck with the laser where it is. Now I have to draw the line 1/8" to the left to get a true cut.

I got this last week and have used it on one project. I built a rail for the garage stairs out of 2x4's with it and it was great. Quieter than my last saw which was a Skil. The laser is amazing. I used it in the garage and had no trouble seeing it clearly and cutting with it. I cut across the end at a 40 degree bevel no problem. I cut several pieces with the laser at 40 degrees as well as straight and it handled every cut quick and easy. As one reviewer said it is a little heavy but I think this adds to the stability. I am very happy with this purchase.

Pros : Price is right, Long wire, Seems like a durable saw
Cons: The only con I found so far is I find it to be a little on the heavy side which I guess you want in a durable saw but is heavy.
Neither pro nor con is the laser light guide, which is one of those cool toys I always wanted on a saw, however, I always strike or draw a line on the material I'm cutting and I don't use it. I did try it and it makes a nice guide line but it is difficult to see when working outdoors in sunlight. I think a laser light guide would be more practical on a chop saw.
Overall I don't think you can beat this saw for the price, I would recommend it.

As mentioned in the previous reviews, the laser guide is not very useful when using it outside on a sunny day, but if doing work inside a lumber shop, it works perfectly. As far as he has told me, it works perfectly, but as I have not personally used it yet, I am not sure how great it cuts.

This is one of those 'mostly good' reviews...this saw is great in almost all respects except for one major issue. This may not be a big deal if you are using the saw to build a deck or something outdoors, but to me it was a killer pain in the rear that I wish I had noticed before I purchased it. It has NO DUST COLLECTION options and when making a cut the blade guard blocks the slot that is supposed to eject dust out the side. This makes a huge mess in my shop. It's not a deal breaker, and I love my PC tools, including this one. For quality of cut and ease of use this is a 5-star product. For dust collection, I've got to knock a couple of stars off. It seems a major oversight on the part of the product designers at porter cable/black and decker.

Used this new saw for a couple of hours after getting it the other day and must say it's a dream to use. Lighter than what I have been using and the results were outstanding. Laser is a nice touch and plenty bright in shaded areas.

I ordered a left handed (as pictured). The one delivered is right handed. I got 2 day deivery as i had a job and needed it.I needed to use it that day so I had no choice but to keep it.
This is the problem with ordering a necessary without seeing your product first.

Well, I had to buy a complete set of tools for a project, and this was cheap. But, it is difficult to like a circular saw with a lousy guide plate -- you know, the flat plate that the saw rides on over your wood. It actually rocks a bit, there's no feeling of stability. I never would have bought this at a store. It's worth it to get a saw with a nice flat plate -- I have an old Makita with a molded aluminum plate that works great. Even with a guide, this saw doesn't give you a sense of certainty that you're cutting straight and square.

This saw is the best value out there. Porter Cable is known for high quality products and this saw is no exception. It lives up to the name and performs wonderfully. The laser is nice and makes cutting a straight line easy. The 13 amp motor along with the sharp blade zips through wood. The great thing is that there is minimum splintering, even when cutting plywood. The only problem I found is no blade lock. You have to push it up against a block of scrap wood in order to change or insall the blade. All in all, this is a great saw.
