This purchase was intended to be used as a helmet camera while motorcycle riding. I've concluded after several weeks of use that it is certainly fit for this purpose, but better options probably exist on Amazon in this price range.
The picture quality is good enough to prove that I'm not at fault for an accident, and that's ok because it's all I wanted in a helmet cam. It's not good enough to catch a license plate unless I'm within 10 feet. The night image is horrible, but again, I'm not looking for GoPro quality.
The sound is useless with literally any wind interference at all, but it usually is at interstate speeds with any camera. If there is no wind, then the sound is muffled at best.
The battery life at 3 hours is perfect for my daily riding. I can go about 3 days without charging.
The storage space is definitely a negative. You will run out of storage before the battery dies.
Two other issues I've had is the tendency for the camera to turn itself off and that this camera IS NOT WIDE ANGLED. I believe the former issue may be related to the Velcro straps pressing the power button while moving at high speeds.
Overall, it's a sleek cam that does what I need it to do. It's not the caliber of camera you're looking for if you want to make HD action-camera footage.
I am deducting one star because the camera is difficult to mount with correct orientation. There is a little arrow labeled "Up" on the device, but most of my recordings are tilted.
5 years later: the camera still works and I use it occasionally on shorter road bike rides. Shorter because the battery only lasts about 45 minutes max when freshly charged. This translates to about 2Gb of data. The device can hold twice that amount but it never gets that far (unless you don't delete it when you recharge it for the next ride). I also started to use it on motorcycle rides (the velcro strap attaches nicely to the guard rails around the saddle bags). But because of the limited battery life and the high maintenance (which charging and erasing after every use), I am looking for something better.
Now about the quality......
It's OK. Depending on what you are trying to do with it and how high of a quality you want, you might want to do a bit research. Comparing this camera quality to say an iPhone 4 or Android camera, then the phone in your pocket has this thing beat by a long shot.....HOWEVER, the quality is good enough (when outdoors) to suit your needs and by that I mean, it has a somewhat decent resolution with 30 fps. On another note, the playback of the video will be quite pixelated if you try to view on full screen or any screen bigger than a computer screen, like a tv for example.
When I mentioned outdoors, it is because this camera is virtually useless in any darkened environment. It works better off natural lighting, outside in the sun this camera meets expectations. Indoors with artificial lighting, you'll be lucky if you can see anything besides darkness. Honestly it will look like how a webcam off a computer looks in the dark, except it has a better frame rate then a webcam.
As for the waterproof capabilities, I tested it and it works very well, there is a rubber seal inside the cap that goes over the USB connection fitting and could possibly fall out if not careful (when removing the cap, not during use). The box comes included with spare rubber seals and the directions literally say that sometimes the camera is manufactured and shipped without the seal in the cap. CHECK THE SEAL BEFORE USE. Mine had it in there, but be the poor sap who doesn't check and ruins the camera as soon as they get it. No fun.
All in all, it met my expectations and for the price, size and somewhat decent quality I am pleased with it. However, if your one of those people that constantly need HD or care a lot about quality over size then you might want to go look at something else. But for the budgeteer adventure seeker, this camera is the best bet.
