1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived with the battery at 0% - Update: True capacity is only 27.7% of 23,000 mAh
By zilch0 on October 5, 2020
One of the worst things you can do to a Lithium battery (and several other chemistries) is to fully discharge it.

My PowerAdd Pilot Pro 2 was fully discharged when it arrived. I hooked up the charger and was stunned to see it flashing 0%.

That automatically knocks off several charge/discharge cycles from the total life of the battery pack, before it will no longer accept a charge. Not cool.

When set aside for longterm storage, a Lithium battery should be be charged to somewhere between 50% and 60%. A self-discharge rate of about 1% per month is to be expected, but if this battery pack had been prepped correctly at the factory, it would take several years to self-discharge down to 0%.

It's possible that the state of charge is ridiculously innaccurate, of course, but if that's the case, then I'm still not pleased with seeing 0% when first connecting it to the charger. It moved to 1%, then 2% etc. very slowly, so it's not as if it jumped from 0% to some much higher figure.

Other than that HUGE disappointment, I am pleased with its design and how it functions. I'm just concerned that I will have to replace it much sooner than the typical 500 charge cycles I might expect had it not suffered such a deep dicharge to 0%, prior to arrival.

UPDATE 10/30/2020: The true capacity of the Poweradd Pilot Pro2 that I received, as measured after deep cycling the brand new unit three times, outputting 12 Volts with a 2 Amp load, is only 6,380 mAh, which is just 27.7% of the advertised 23,000 mAh capacity.

To perform the discharge tests and measurements, I used the following product, sold here on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084GP95QF

The two pictures I've included for this review, show the results measured after discharging from 100% down to 0%, for the third time. In each test, I had the Poweradd set for 12V output, and the testing device adjusted for a constant 2-Amp load.

The figure highlighted in red, should read 23.0 Ah, not 6.38 Ah (23,000 mAh, not 6,380 mAh).

The product appears to be working fine otherwise, but frankly, in hindsight, I suspect by its light weight alone, none of these Poweradd Pilot Pro2 batteries are likely to have an actual capacity of 23,000 mAh.

I'm reducing my star rating from 3 stars to 1 star. If Poweradd offers to send me a replacement, they had better test it first, to ensure that it has a capacity of 23,000 mAh - matching the item description and the specifications printed on the retail box, because I will certainly be testing it myself and I will report the measurements here.
