For the money, a "good buy."

For the money, a "good buy."
For the price, this fighting stick is well worth the money spent. Similar units are at least $50+ and less that 1/4 price of tournament style fighting sticks. This is my first fighting stick and I have nothing to compare to. Using the item as a lap stick is awful and best performs on a stable surface such as a coffee table or even tv dinner style table. I love how the cord is long enough in to sit back on the couch and smash buttons. The build quality feels somewhat cheap. I have about 10 hours of playtime on the stick but feel that it will not last long. Overall, for the money a good buy but not sure if I would categorize it as a MUST BUY.

This product, this masterpiece is the best physical definition of a high quality product for a low price. It has withstand the frustrations of kids, and being dropped twice. I've owned this product for 3 months plus and my fightstick mini is still helping earn top spots on pac man leaderboards and KO'ing gamers in street fighter. Now please be notified, I am not a fightstick expert. I lost my fightstick viginity to the fightstick mini. Although, according to experts, this stick is great quality but the size is smaller than imagined and the buttons aren't as "responsive" as the higher end fightsticks. To me, this stick is so awesome and is successful in invigorating my curiosity in what a "better" fightstick feels like. I definitely recommend this product for other fightstick virgins and kids. Besides, this stick is manufactured by HORI meaning one of the best fightstick companies ever.

This is a great stick if you have not used one before and are unsure if you would want to use one for games. It lets you experience the feel and layout of upper level arcade sticks without the huge price tag. I have had mine for a few months and have found that I really like it and it made me enjoy fighting games so much more. The buttons have started to stick a little now but it still works, another reason why this is only good if you are unsure of an arcade stick. The buttons on this unlike other higher priced sticks are soldered on so you can't remove/replace them without know how to solder, so they are staying sticky for me since cleaning didn't work. I want to get more serious in games like SSFIV and Injustice so I am going to be buying a better stick soon. Bottom line, if you know you'll like a stick or are already into fighting games and want to advance on, get yourself a better stick, The madcatz have gone down in price to about 100 now so that isn't too bad. If you haven't used a stick before or are new to fighters, go ahead and get this stick but be prepared to buy another if you like it because this one might not last so long like mine.
Ones I am contemplating on(only $100 and have authentic arcade parts):
Mad Catz SoulCalibur V Arcade FightStick SOUL Edition for Playstation 3
Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken - Arcade FightStick PRO - Cross for Playstation 3

This fighting stick is horrible! I hated the fact that it broke the third day I had it. The stick came completely out and there was a rattling noise inside signifying that it had broke. Sounded like plastic rattling around. Also, "Mini" is true when it comes to this controller. Don't buy this stick, i'm dead serious!

Within a few time of using this fighting stick, the actual stick part itself stopped working properly. All of a sudden the right quadrant of the stick stopped working. My fireballs and shoryukens were not coming out even though I was inputting properly. And I could tell because I was able to do all moves properly while on the right side of the screen. So don't buy it, it won't last long.

The good news is, this inexpensive fighting stick will be better than your standard controller while costing less. The bad news is that there are obviously some cut corners and overall bad design decisions that could prove frustrating for some.

    Buttons:
These are not Hori arcade buttons. They are smaller in diameter with a slippery, convex surface and a spongy feel. However, in my first marathon session with this stick I had no response issues with them. They work fine, and their arrangement and spacing felt very natural. Along a small indent in the top of the unit are select, start, PS, turbo, and an LED for the turbo function. Not much to say here, other than each one of these had a small, hairline crack or scratch jutting out from them, but they appear to only be on the surface - something from the manufacturing process I suppose, but not something I was expecting new from the box. Also, the PS button will not turn on my console, yet works fine once it is on.

    Stick:
This is one of my biggest complaints, but for some it is just a preference. The stick seems to have a shorter throw than the pro sticks, and it has a square gate. While some might be fine with this, I find the square gate makes the stick wonder into the diagonal zones when I am trying to move straight along X or Y, causing unintentional jumps, crouches, and missed specials. It has been a point of (somtimes extreme) frustration for me, but by repositioning the unit and practicing, I am starting to get better. I have no idea why anyone would prefer square gates to octagonal, but there it is. It is otherwise perfectly responsive, and has passed the toddler durability test.

    Overall Layout:
This until is small. That should be obvious to anyone, but the small form factor pushes the joystick closer to the buttons, to the very threshold of my comfort level. It feels a little crowded. The other downside to the size is the distance from the stick to the left edge of the unit. Being so close, a hard push to the left may cause the whole unit to tilt on its pads, connecting hard plastic with hard coffee table, at which point it will start moving around. This could have been mitigated had the pads been pushed out to the very corners of the device, but instead they are about an inch from the left and right sides. This plus the light weight contributes to the 'tilt and scoot'. When all four pads are firmly on your playing surface, they have very good grip. Unfortunately, I have to dedicate a little too much attention and effort into making sure they do.

    Other:
It has a nice long USB cord, probably 8ft or more, that reaches easily from my console to my coffee table. It's also relatively supple, so it drapes nicely instead of retaining every fold, allowing it to stay out of the way.

    Final thoughts:
I think with a little more engineering this could have been a great device, even with the same components. I'd like to see a little more body between the stick and the left edge for better stability, and better placement of the rubber pads. Some more weight and an octagonal gate would be on my wishlist. I'm guessing Hori was aiming for a particular price point and also wanted to prevent competing with their higher-end gear, but another $10-20 could have gone a long way.

If you love fighting games and have the money, spend it on a bigger, heavier deck with 'real' Hori components. If not, just know that for the price, you're buying some serious compromise.

I was a little skeptical about ordering this fight stick but I decided to give it a go anyway. After setting it up in Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for PC, I must say I love this controller! It is a little on the small side but that's ok because I have small hands. I actually prefer the smaller joystick gate because it makes it easier to execute super combos for characters like Zangief. My wish is that there was a little more space between the joystick and the buttons but that's not a deal breaker. This joystick feels almost as good as my MadCatz street fighter controller that I had years ago and replaced it with Sanwa parts. I think I'll be getting a second controller for when friends come over.

Stick is a little stiff but has good spring to return to original position. Buttons are also a bit stiff. I came from the mayflash stick and it is a dream compared to that.

This stick was sort of a ''blessing'' for me. I love fighters but am not amazing at them. I also have no ambition of becoming a champion. I felt that investing 120$ or so on an arcade stick was ridiculous for the advantage I would get from them. Hori's Fighting stick mini 3 has a great price, is made by a reputable company and is sorta endorsed by Sony so you can understand why I bought it and was confident I would not be disapointed. Well I am indeed very pleased with it.

Worked much better than I expected. By far the best stick in it's price range. The buttons are nice and responsive, the stick itself handles very nicely as well, and seems pretty high quality.

My only complaint is it's light weight. Using it on your lap is difficult, and a flat surface is usually needed for any intense gameplay.

    Overall a great product though.
