They pour the polygons into the cars and tracks, but the backgrounds always suffer. The flatness of scenery becomes apparent if you spend too much time looking at it, but I suppose they expect you'll be too busy keeping your eyes on the road. Regardless, this is one area that I would like to see this game improved. The richness in detail that you find in the scenery of a Forza game is far superior. Though to be fair, Forza never seemed as tweakable as the GT series. So at the end of the day these are two different animals.
I also have issues with the default controller set-up. It's too convoluted, but that reflects back on the highly detailed aspect of the game. I mean, it's got controls for the horn, headlights (high and low beam), that's a bit much. Some nominal control option would have been preferred, instead I had to go in and invalidate most of the mindless stuff that I personally will never use, or only get confused when heading into a turn too quickly.
One thing that caught me off guard was the update/install process. To be entirely honest, I think it took at least 2 hours. This seemed excessive to me, especially since 2 discs of Forza can be installed in about 20 minutes on the Xbox. So the time it takes to actually get to enjoy the game is excessive and annoying.
Other than those gripes, I have nothing left but praise. The cars are beautiful, the racing is definitely more simulation than arcade. Though, the lack of damage is something worth considering. It's obviously not realistic to sideswipe an opponent and go on driving in a pristine car. At least other games make an effort to show damage and let it affect your driving. Beyond tire wear and dirt, I'm not sure GT does anything of the kind.
All that said, I am looking forward to the 6th installment, though I am confused why they would release it on PS3 when it's coming out after the PS4.
[EDIT]
The game's music leaves something to be desired. I thought there was hope because the game supports your own music. This was easier said than done, it's simply not a straight-forward process like what I've experience with custom soundtracks on the Xbox. Once I managed to tell the game to play my music, I found that regardless of the fact that it's set to "shuffle" the sequence will always start on the same song before actually shuffling. Then, seemingly for no reason, the game will go back to playing the game music during the menus or the next race. When I go to see if the settings somehow changed, they're still set for my personal music. So I'm left scratching me head here, it's like being teased about the potential for greatness. I want to believe this is my fault, but I've searched high and low for an answer, and I can't find one. Other than the possibility that custom music was a poorly implemented feature, the only other thing I can conclude is that it's just glitchy and broken.
As far as gameplay goes, this game does nothing to warn you if you're taking an under-powered car into a race. This is very unfortunate. And again, I have to say that maybe I've been spoiled by Forza which takes the guess work out by telling you before entering a race that you "might" want to upgrade your car to remain competitive. This is annoying considering the minute or so you spend loading a race, then you'll realize you're car is under powered after a couple minutes of racing, then you either complete the race in a bad position, or quit the race. At which point you return to the menu, tune up your car (which wastes more time on an extraneous animation of your car going in and out of a garage), and eventually get back to racing again. I'm sure there is a stat that an observant person might catch before having all this happens which would guide the playing toward tuning prior to a race, but I'm a guy who doesn't want to do much more than race. This superfluous jump-through-hoops type of stuff is really really frustrating. Maybe this racer is just too detailed, or maybe this is just a reflection of it's country of origin. Forza being an American franchise is likely nerfed to appeal to people who are apathetic about the minute details (like me), while the Gran Turismo franchise is likely geared toward people who are real sticklers about every little thing. Gran Turismo is like a beautiful woman; you might fall in love with her at first sight, then she opens her mouth, and your heart shatters in six different places. And all you can do now is just learn to love her flaws.
Even with the XL version there is some DLC content that is not included so it is not a complete edition. Not a big deal to me because there is so much content here anyway it will be a while before I get around to having to buy any more to keep things fresh.
This game is classic GT. I have been playing them all since the first one so if you have played any in the past you know what to expect. What continues to frustrate me is the seemingly endless variations of Japanese cars that all seem so similar I cannot tell what the difference is. It seems like there are 7 years worth of RX-7's, or Skylines, all with the same body style and with 3 or so variants per year, not including the tuner versions. It just seems a tad repetitive but if it were American iron that had this many variations I would probably be happy so I guess it is just preference.
The cool thing is this game has continued to be updated and has newer cars available through the DLC. I also like the additional seasonal challenges that help keep things fresh, it is a neat feature. As always most of my cars come from the used car lot and there are so many to choose from, I've been playing for about a month and a half and my garage has over 300 cars already! The collecting odd ball cars becomes almost an obsession.
Overall I have had more fun with this edition than the past ones and that is saying something because the previous installments were always impressive. A great game at a bargain price, IF you get the DLC included. Otherwise you are shelling out twice as much. I would not be surprised if another version is released son if they do not update the vouchers as I think Europe has the Academy Edition with more current DLC included.

Llego con un ligero golpe en la portada. Agrego foto.
De todas formas, Muy recomendable. Ya que el disco si llego bien sin ningún otro problema. Supongo que sufrió algún percance en el envió.
