The Alpha iQ Streaming Powered Speakers with BluOS make it easy to enjoy PSB’s signature “True to Nature” sound from your favorite streaming services and legacy sources—without cable clutter. The two speakers have 180W of built-in amplification and a network streamer based on the award-winning BluOS multi-room music platform. Plug the speakers into power outlets, then connect the Alpha iQ to your home using the friendly BluOS Controller app.
Now you can play music from more than 20 streaming services and share that music over your home network with up to 63 other BluOS-enabled components. In addition to Apple AirPlay 2 support and Bluetooth connectivity, the Alpha iQ has inputs for a wide array of sources, so you can connect a turntable, TV, disc player, and game console.
A WORLD OF MUSIC
Comprising two wireless bookshelf speakers with built-in amplifiers, PSB’s Alpha iQ is an all-in-one audio system for the streaming age. There’s no need to clutter your living space with speaker cables. The left and right speakers communicate via a wireless link that can cover most rooms in an average-size home without delays or latency, so music stays synched and clear regardless of speaker placement.
The Alpha iQ has an audiophile-grade DAC that supports high-resolution audio resolution to 24-bit/192kHz, and has full MQA decoding and rendering capability for high-res streaming from Tidal. BluOS also gives you access to hundreds of Internet radio stations around the world, including Radio Paradise, which offers four stations with MQA-encoded hi-res music.
You can listen through the Alpha iQ alone or share your music over your home network with as many as 63 other BluOS-enabled devices.
SERIOUS SOUND
Featuring a sleek, modern design, the Alpha iQ is available in satin white and satin black finishes. Inside each enclosure is a 4″ polypropylene mid-bass driver with steel basket and rubber surround, and a 0.75″ aluminum dome tweeter with neodymium magnet and ferrofluid damping.
The Alpha iQ employs a DSP-based active crossover. As with many PSB designs, the tweeter is placed below the woofer. With this arrangement, the blend between woofer and tweeter remains consistent whether you’re sitting or standing.
Each woofer has its own 60W class-D amplifier, and each tweeter its own 30W class-D amp, for total system output of 180W. Thanks to their powerful amplifiers, tuned bass ports, and DSP-enabled low-frequency extension, PSB’s Alpha iQ speakers deliver bass output that completely belies their diminutive size.
PLUG AND PLAY
The Alpha iQ isn’t just for streaming. The primary speaker has a built-in MM phono preamp and RCA jacks plus ground terminal, so vinyl fans can connect a turntable. An HDMI ARC port lets you experience “True to Nature” sound with TV and movies. There’s also an optical input for connecting a disc player or game console, and a 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting analog sources.
The Alpha iQ has Bluetooth connectivity, with support for the high-quality aptX-HD codec, for wireless playback from smart devices. You use the BluOS app to play music files stored on an external drive connected to the Alpha iQ’s USB port.
The combined optical/headphone jack lets you connect a pair of headphones for late-night listening. For enhanced bass, there’s a subwoofer output. When a subwoofer is connected, you can use the BluOS app to engage a low-pass filter for the sub and a high-pass filter for the mains—this frees the Alpha iQ from having to produce deep Bass Sounds
SUPER SMART
Available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, the intuitive BluOS app lets you control every aspect of the Alpha iQ’s operation. Convenient touch controls on the top of the primary speaker let you adjust volume and pause and resume playback.
You can also control playback by voice using Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri (via AirPlay 2). And PSB’s Alpha iQ BluOS Streaming Powered Speakers can be integrated into popular smart home systems like Control4, Crestron, ELAN, RTI, and URC. IR command learning is available for listeners who use harmonized remote controls to operate multiple A/V devices.

Good sound quality!
This is my first PSB speaker and the sound quality is great for speakers this size. The sound is very clean and clear with no distortion even at max volume. The bass also sounds great for its size. The volume was a bit low even at max volume. Good for a small room or office. My initial thought on these speakers was why they cost $1499 retail for small Bluetooth speakers and didn’t even have a build in battery, compared to my Bose S1 Pro at $699 each? Well these were not intended to be mobile and were not just Bluetooth speakers, they’re smart speakers connected to your network via Wifi or Ethernet cable, that enabled you to control them via the BluOS app (Vol, EQ, music/radio streaming queue, etc.) and the ability to cast audio from your mobile devices through AirPlay without the need of Bluetooth pairing (similar to the SONOS speakers). I had to power cycle the speakers to get the AirPlay to work after initial setup. The setup was straight forward and the BluOS App was easy to use. Depending what you need and your budget, these are good quality smart speakers for streaming music or online radios.

I so wanted to love these speakers and have them be my endgame for my desktop, but alas, twas not meant to be.
The major issue with the set I received is that there is random clicking sound from both speakers, but mainly the left wireless one. I have tried good quality aux and optical cables and it even happens with bluetooth. I have also tried resetting everything and starting from scratch and moving the speakers further away from other electronics to no avail. As you can see it only took me 5 seconds to capture the issue on video. It's absolutely maddening. You can really hear it when listening to podcasts, reviews and softer music like classical or acoustic. But, when listening to more complex music like rock and metal, the clicking is hidden and you really can't hear it. With less complex media, there is also a warbling type sound, as if one or the other speaker is losing some volume, randomly. But, placing a finger on the woofers to see if one cuts out, well, it doesn't. These things are driving me crackers! lol.
Another issue I noticed that taking them out of the box, there were scuffs on the bottom of the speakers (pictured). Were these returns? Used? Also, the cheap little rubber, stick on feet provided are a joke. At this price point, I would expect something better.
Now, forgetting what I just said about the clicking noises and warbling, the sound that these speakers produce (with more complex media) is really, really good. Center imaging is fantastic with a huge soundstage. Instrument clarity is excellent. Highs, being a bit bumped up are crisp and airy, mids are pronounced and punchy and bass is more than ample for a woofer of this size. Quite impressive really.
The app you can download, also did not impress me. Clunky. I'm a pretty techy guy and it took me a bit to figure out the app and to get to the tone controls.
For the price point, these speakers should be flawless, aesthetically and functionally. Mine are not. These will be going back. Not recommended.

First, I do have several Apple AirPlay speakers and a Sonos.
I used them for general music listening and TV watching and have been satisfied with them.
However, it hasn’t been until until that I have realized what I’ve been missing in my music, such as natural balanced vocals, distinguishing the subtle stringed instruments in the background.
The PSB Alpha iQ do complement the acoustics in my apartment, I can make out what I’m listening to all the way into my kitchen.
The small foot print is surprising with the quality of sound projecting out of them.
The chamber seems to be well insulated, the sound is projected outward and the objects on my shelf doesn’t rattle like some speakers I have tried.
I feel the sound around and take it inside me. May seem weird to some, however that is my personal experience with the music I listen to.
I am thoroughly pleased with the product and honored to have them in my life.
