If you are starting out, and just need something to learn with, hone your skills with, etc. these are the way to go.
REMEMBER!!! - you need to constantly sharpen your chisels, meaning that until you are good at doing that, you will likely mess up once or twice, or a hundred times. So start with something affordable, make your mistakes, and then strive for perfection.
The chisels were packed within a box and bubble wrap. The wooden box is simple, but serves its purpose and keeps the chisels safe during transport.
The chisels themselves are of decent quality, the basic grinds seem to be working reasonably well. Of course you need to sharpen them. I left the bevels as they were, I am a woodturning beginner and until I develop my own idiosyncratic preferences, the bevels work fine for me.
The chisels have some sticky coating on them (I presume for corrosion protection, but then again, they are HSS...) Future buyers would be well advised to remove this residue (with Turpentine or Acetone). As the chisels get hot during sharpening, the residue melts and is harder to remove. Don't ask how I know.
The flutes are not honed, but sufficiently smooth, particularly for beginners. The parting gouge has a rectangular square section, not the more advanced diamond shape. I have had no problems so far when using them.
The handles are of good quality and sufficiently long. I couldn't verify the kind of wood used. They could be a tad heavier, but hey, as you get better at basic woodturning, you can always make your own handles!
Overall I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend these chisels, in particular to beginners. They represent good value for money.
