However if you're watching videos the grip doubles as a stand and also doubles your psp's play time. The short grip cord hampers the possible angles here though to be honest but it's still a good option to have away from a wall socket. When playing video games away from a wall socket the grip when plugged into the psp will also double your playtime assuming you've charged the grip up beforehand. That's almost essntial for playing a full 9 inning game of MLB The Show 2009 to prevent those low battery bugs from showing up.

The grip holds it's charge pretty well. Perhaps recharge it 2-3 times per week when not in use. I view the thing mostly as a portable(attached) battery. I'm using one of my wife's fanny packs to store and to walk around with it(the psp 300 plus grip) listening to tunes. It works fine now but when the weather turns warmer that could present an overheat problem. Hopefully not. Anyways I can always detache the grip and walk around with the psp attached to my 'Jethro Belt' !
I can't really say whether or not it's worth it. That's totally up to your needs. One huge advantage to the psp is portability and ease of use and this product hampers portability and adds some complication to use. This is a definite option to extending the battery life of your psp but perhaps not as convenient as just installing a better battery. The better battery will increase the weight of your psp and it's bulk but not as much as this. The better battery does not give you the stand or glareblock/privacy barrier option however. If you're good with gadgets and don't mind a little inconvenience this product might be right for you if you need the extra battery time. There is a trick to installing this and you'll need a flathead screwdriver. Search around for those instructions in the package because it isn't obvious and at least one reviewer has impatiently broken his. Personally I like this product !
While the psp had better battery life than I've expected (PSP 3000) and I found myself rarely using the thrustmaster to charge it, it IS able to keep the psp going for about 9-12 hours of straight gaming and is perfect for the odd day when you're away from any outlet for a day or more or for weekend camping trips.
This item is very elegant and fits my psp like a glove (the hinge is built to fit the phat model on one side and the slim model on the other) I actually use it as a screen cover (like the Nintendo DS) and sun blocker more than for the portable battery, but it's easy on the mind to know that I don't have to worry about power at all.
The grip does take some getting used to as I have medium sized hands, but it's easy enough to just turn it around so that it's on its sun visor angle and just grip the PSP regularly - there's a youtube video on this item so that you could see how it works before you buy.
I purchased this for $30 used and even though I love it, I wouldn't pay more than that for it. While it's discontinued, it does pop up used on here and ebay quite regularly though if you could wait.
Solution -- the PSP Thrustmaster T-X3. It screws into the top of your PSP -- and has a swivel on it. When in the front position, it protects the front of your PSP, and has a cable for charging. When swiveled to the back, it acts like an ergonomic grip (helps with cramped hands!), and has a cable for charging!
The battery is easy to charge, and uses your standard PSP AC adaptor -- meaning you only need to carry one AC adaptor to charge the PSP and the T-X3.
So in summary, it replaces the need for a case, gives a more ergonomic grip, and can charge the PSP in open or closed positions. It DOES add some bulk to the PSP -- but that isn't an issue for me.
Note -- there are TWO charge cables from the battery to charge the PSP. One is readily obvious, the second is found by removing a grip panel. It's mentioned in the manual, but if you're like me (and don't read manuals), you might miss this.
Overall good product, definitely better than most grips. A must for long trips and psp zealots and if you have gorilla hands like me the grip will feel pretty nice and secure with a psp-slim.
