I was looking for a solution that would allow me to control my telescope in my backyard. I checked out all the options, USB over Cat5E, wireless controllers, even using VNC and a laptop at the telescope. However, after some advice from fellow amateur astronomers, I was led onto this idea. I was a little skeptical; I'd had bad luck with long USB cables before but never tried a active repeater cable. So I ordered 1 to give it a try. It allowed me to control my video capture card, telescope, and take pictures through my dSLR all at the same time. It did run out of bandwidth with my guide camera at that point; so I had to order another one. But, I suspected it wouldn't be able to keep up with a device that tends to be very finicky.

So, the setup is a USB repeater cable to a powered hub that has everything else attached to it. It will power a single device at 60m, but can't handle more than that. I would suggest a hub though. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. The cable is a little thick, but you should be able to get it under the door.

I wanted to network my original TiVo, located in the upper level media room, with my newly purchased TiVo in the lower level den. The lower level network adapter was having a difficult time linking to the upstairs router due to all the heating and A/C ducts that were shielding the signals. The PTC extension solved the problem because it has greater length than most USB extension cables due to the two active repeaters built into the cable. The 64' length allows for the optimum placement of the hardware to a site with less path loss. This cable will work not only for networking TiVo's, but also for any home network application where the 802.11 adapter needs to be relocated a long distance to a place that provides better wireless connectivity to the network hub.

Each one counts as 2 hubs though. There is a 5 hub rule (you cannot hook up a wire and hub more than 5 deep) so that means you can only chain 2 of these on long runs cause the 3rd one puts you at 6 hubs. The cables seemed a little less than 64 ft also. I did not measure them with a ruler but 1x1 tiles I ran it over and was short although not by far. Otherwise great product and would buy again. Fast at shipping!

I wanted to connect to my telescope camera so that I could do remote control and viewing on my telescope. I tried different things (USB over IP) and ideas (remote connect to a laptop) but this was by far the simplest. I just connected the cable to my computer and then plugged the camera into the cable and it worked just as if the camera was plugged directly into the computer. I'm very happy with this cable, and it completely blows the 3 meter USB limit out of the water. A 64' USB cable! How awesome is that?

I purchased this item to use with my ADS-B Radar installation. Due to the long coax cable feed of 75 feet, most of the signal from the Antenna to the Receiver was being loss. I was able to mount the Receiver close to the Antenna and use the USB cable from the Receiver to the pc, thus eliminating 63 feet of coax. Detection range of aircraft increased from 40 to 255 miles. It was a case of either using this USB cable or purchasing an expensive head-end amplifier. Looks like I made the right call.

My guess is that without a power source to boost the cable's signal capability, it won't deliver the signal required for your application. I'm sure that with a power source this cable will work without issue and provide you the signal quality and data transfer you require. Research first before purchasing.
