For Wheelchairs, Recliners, Lift Chairs, and Scooters
The PURAP Seat Cushion is designed to prevent and heal pressure sores in patients with limited mobility. Sores can start developing in as little as 4-6 hours of sitting in one position. Depending on the stage of the sores, they can take anywhere from days to months to heal.
PURAP Helps Heal Existing Sores and Prevent New Sores
- Helps heal pressure sores in patients who have already developed sores, and
- Prevents recurrence & new sores in those who are at risk for sores.
Those with a high risk and incidence of pressure sores are:
- People using wheelchairs, recliners, lift chairs, scooters
- The elderly, as they have fragile skin
- Those in postoperative care
- Patented Fluid 3D Flotation Technology
- Technology Tested at Stanford University Hospital
- Dissipates pressure more effectively than air, gel and memory foam cushions
How PURAP Helps Prevent and Heal Sores
Pressure hotspots are the starting point for sores
When you sit, pressure gets concentrated on a few contact points - typically under your sacrum, ischium, and tailbone. This creates pressure "hotspots" that are the starting point for sores.
Pressure map of PURAP shows uniform low pressures
The PURAP seat cushion effectively dissipates pressure away from the high-risk areas and provides a low uniform pressure. This helps heal existing sores and helps prevent new sores from developing.
PURAP prevents circulation cutoff and reduces numbness
The PURAP also prevents circulation cut-off and skin shear, and helps maintain optimal skin microclimate. This relieves sitting pain, numbness and soreness in your bottom.
Fluid 3D Flotation Technology Has 3 Layers for Pressure Relief
Unique Fluid Layer to Dissipate Pressure
Patented fluid 3D Flotation technology uses 3 different layers - a unique fluid, air, and foam.
The fluid layer is closest to the body and increases the direct support area for your body. It dissipates pressure laterally, away from the body to the edges of the cushion.
Published Technical Data on Fluid 3D Flotation
PURAP has published data on clinical tests done by independent researchers from Stanford University Hospital. The outcome data is available on the nursing center website as well as on the National Library of Medicine (part of NIH) website.
PURAP feels different than other cushions
Observe Progress For a Week
Memory Foam & Gel Cushions "Pack Down"
When you sit on a foam or gel cushion, you "sink-in" and may experience some instant relief. However, these cushions then push back against your bottom which creates high pressure hotspots.
PURAP Does Not "Pack Down"
With the PURAP cushion, you don't sink-in. The fluid layer may feel "firm" as it is designed to increase support area without compressing. It dissipates the pressure laterally away from the body and does not push back against your bottom.
- PURAP may feel firmer and thinner than other cushions
- Observe change in sores for a week while using PURAP
- Follow medical protocols as prescribed by your doctor

Simply place the PURAP cushion on your wheelchair, recliner, car seat, office chair, etc. Please continue your treatment of the medical conditions. The cushion helps prevent and heal sores, but is not a substitute for treatment of the underlying conditions.

I recommend this to anyone. It certainly prevents the shearing and tearing of the delicate, fragile skin of the elderly.
Thanks so much!!!!
I was sold on the Purap Cushion by a discussion I had with one of its makers at an Ability Expo in San Jose Nov., 2014. Was told it had better pressure mappings than a ROHO cushion. Being 1/4 of the cost of a ROHO it seemed worth trying, especially since it promised more stability, less maintenance & easier transfers.
Well 1st day on it a red spot appeared on my left ischeal area so I stopped using for two weeks, long enough for it to clear up. I then tried it again, doing more weight shifts than usual by using my electric wheelchair's tilt mechanism every now & then. At the end of the day, there was still a slight pink spot in the previous area, confirming that the Purap cushion would not be an improvement over what was already working. I didn't just leave it at that. I took it a step further by scheduling a appointment with an Occupational Therapist who was actually able to measure the reason why the Purap cushion didn't produce the same results as my present cushion. I've photographed & posted those images for your benefit below.
Please bear in mind I am not endorsing ROHO cushions here. I am including this information for ones in my special situation who are having to deal with Rehab issues unique to their situation who might think as I had hoped, that this Purlap cushion could be in the same class, if not better, & for less money, than some of the high-end Rehab cushions out there. Make no mistake, the Purlap cushion is still a bargain for what it does, providing comfortable seating & a lot of pressure relief for the money. But for those of you who are in a similar situation as mine, I know you will appreciate the value of this information.....
Followup - the seller contacted us within hours and offered a possible solution of sending us a second pad to try. We will give it a shot and follow up - hopefully with a 5 star review. Great customer service!
Followup - after receiving a second cushion we are very happy with customer support - they were prompt, courteous, and helpful. Still not sure what caused our initial failure as the photo of the chair doesn't show anything that might curl up.... After working it over I was able to get most of the curl out of the pad on the original cushion. I'll try it out and see if the problem comes back. In the mean time, Mom is comfortable again!!

The only down side is it’s a lot more expensive than other cushions but having said that it is a better cushion so I suppose you get what you pay for.
