I purchased a different brand, and it worked just fine. So bottom line is that to use this unit, one must really have a clear space left and right of sensor of about three feet, and outward from wall of about 16 inches. None of this is noted in the on line description.
has lasted longer than a year. I would not recommend
this product unless you expect to buy one every year.
My original post :
I decided on (and recommend) the Model PZ-1900 which comes with a power adapter, because I didn’t want to fool with replacing batteries every year as some reviews have recommended. Our garages have a power outlet conveniently located mid-height, right of the door in the garage. Since I park on the right side, that position was ideal.
Most of the reviews are favorable for either the PZ-1900 or the PZ-1600. Two operational aspects which are important are: The minimum distance from the sensor to your car bumper must be at least 1’ 4” (16 inches); and there must be no obstructions to the left/right of the sensor for about 3 feet.
The sensor and light units are both very compact (about index card size) and weigh only a few ounces each. So instead of mounting with either the two-sided tape or screws which are supplied, I used two small 3M “Command” mounting strips each on the sensor unit and the light unit. The 3M’s avoid damaging the wall and are easy to remove or relocate. It took me only 12 minutes to align, install, and set the system. I’m really pleased with how it works!
As you either drive forward into or back into the garage, the unit first senses the car at about 15 feet out and the green light shines, Then, as you slowly go further in, the yellow light shines. Lastly, when you arrive at the distance you have set, the red light shines and you stop. Easy-peezy !
Of course with such an inexpensive unit, absolute precision shouldn’t be expected.Read more ›
