I am appalled towards some of the reviews on this game. This game is a remake so it needs to be graded on that scale. Giving it a 1 star for being a remake and not an all new game is ignorant and plain stupid. It says right on the case " The classic returns." to buy this game used, for ps1, and disk only is around forty dollars. I paid 8 for a brand new sealed copy for psp. In no way do I feel ripped off. The overall design of the case is good, and the instruction booklet is very colorful and full feeling -- I notice nowadays booklets aren't nearly as good or helpful as they used to be. The additions are nice but no reason to re-purchase an already owned game. if you'd like to relieve the classic for a MAJOR FRACTION of the price... here's your chance.

I love rhythm games and played many of them. before Parappa the Rapper, I played Gitaroo Man and mastered it on every difficulty, so I figured I would breeze right through this game with no difficulty, right? ....Wrong. The challenge here for certain levels is very real, but the ability to master this game is also present. I love the wacky nutball humor of this game, too. The only downside is playing it in public made me look like a crazy person, as I frantically mashed buttons and chuckled outloud at certain nonsensical things throughout the crazy story. If you like this game, be sure to give Gitaroo Man a go too!

I wanted to like PaRappa the Rapper. I really did. Unfortunately, this is one of the few rhythm games I just had to put down. Being that rhythm games were more-or-less new back when this was released, this title obviously does seem rather dated in comparison to the likes of things such as Rock Band or Just Dance.
I gotta say, though, that the fact that this game is dated is actually a big problem with the game. You see, the game's cutscenes are incredibly corny. The voice acting feels half-hearted and the CGI animation (Not the visuals - The ANIMATION) looks like it was done with an amateur CGI program that's free-to-use via download off the Internet. I probably would've found it a bit more excusable if it weren't for the fact that many other Playstation games have fared much better in both voicing and CGI.
Despite the cutscenes not being in great quality, one would think that the rhythmic gameplay would more than make up for it, right? Unfortunately, something went kinda wrong with how PaRappa the Rapper controls. You're supposed to press buttons as shown onscreen to sync with the music, but the game itself sometimes seems to inaccurately depict your timings as off. This gets way more annoying in Stage 3+ to the point where one is likely to ragequit.
That's not to say the game is totally crap. In fact, the visuals are stylish and colorful, and the soundtrack is pretty catchy, if not a little bit corny. If you do manage to get the hang of the flawed mechanics, you might have a good time. However, this particular game is overall a mediocre title that should have been ironed out.
I will say this: I'd be more than happy to see a new PaRappa the Rapper game come into the scene. Just as long as everything's improved, most notably the mechanics.
===UPDATE: 2/15/2015===
My opinion on Parappa in general has changed drastically since I've written this review, especially after I went on to play UmJammer Lammy. I now consider it to be a fun, lighthearted, colorful series, and I think I was feeling rather spoiled when I said the cutscenes and animation were bad; I mean I guess it looks dated now, but I can forgive that. The voice acting in this game is still rather questionable, but the songs are still very fun to listen to.
And now that I tapped into this PSP edition again, I have actually been able to be better and better at the game, only losing once or twice per playthrough in comparison to, say, eight or higher. I'm still going to leave the rating at 3 stars because it took me SO long to get to that point, but if you're one to be as patient as I had been, I think you'll find yourself with a stellar portable version of Parappa that you can take anywhere.

Just as fun as I remember it and for the listed price worth buying if you like rhythm games. Only issue I have with this is trying to get the newly added dlc tracks the link is broken so no one can download the new tracks made for this edition which sucks. Other than that I enjoyed this game and the music even if it is a corny game to some.

PaRappa The Rapper has become one of my all time favorite games. Not only does it have cute characters it has really upbeat songs that make you want to play the same level over and over again.

The controls are a bit hard to get used to, but the game looks pretty good. And it works.. And the package wasn’t damaged... I would recommend this to any rhythm game collector...
