If you're still suffering the lingering effects of Pac-Man fever, you'll be excited to hear that Namco's Pac-Man Collection repackages the infectious original with three other Pac-Man-themed games in a new anthology for the Game Boy Advance.

Pac-Man Collection contains the original Pac-Man, plus Pac-Attack, PacMania 3D, and the never-before-seen-out-of-the-arcade Pac-Man Arrangement game. Pac-Man plays like you remember, and like Namco Museums's picture perfect re-creation of Ms. Pac-Man, it features spot-on control, graphics, cartoon cutscenes, sound effects, and, best of all, music from the coin-op (who can forget that opening theme?). As such, it's easily the best of this collection.

PacMania 3D is basically a 3-D version of the original, and is just about as uninspired now as when it came out. Pac-Attack is a cool variation on such puzzlers as Tetris and Columns, and as such it's perfect for handheld gaming. Pac-Man Arrangement is an odd little game that plays much like the original but adds weird power-ups that, for example, make you gigantic.

Because Pac-Man Collection is a perfectly emulated package, there isn't much to gripe about, save that Ms. Pac-Man is a far, far better game than the original, and you'll have to shell out more money if you want that one. But for retro gamers on the go who also want to track down ghosts and eat power pills, this package is sure to sate your hunger. --Andrew S. Bub

I grew up in the 80s playing Atari and arcade games. So when I purchased my new Gameboy Advance SP, I immediately wanted to buy Pac-Man. I definitely was not disappointed. The cartridge contains 4 different games. The basic Pac-Man game is a good replica of the arcade version, replete with Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. It can be played in full-screen or scroll version. The full-screen version is a bit small, but I find the scroll version difficult to play as you cannot see what the characters are doing on other parts of the board.

PacMania 3D and Pac-Man Arrangement are variations on the classic Pac-Man. Pac-Man Arrangement is my least favorite of the 4 games. Although the board is colorful, the floating dots add nothing. I also find it somewhat confusing, and it's difficult to control. PacMania 3D is enjoyable and includes several 3D worlds. You can make your Pac-man jump, and the ghosts have great menacing glares.

However, Pac-Attack is definitely my favorite game here - a brilliant variation on Tetris. Like Tetris, the falling blocks must be arranged. Some of the blocks contain ghosts and some contain a Pac-Man, and the goal is to arrange the ghosts so that you can eat them. It's pretty addicting. Overall, I'm really enjoying this collection. Most highly recommended.

This is a great collection to have as a Pac-Man fan or game enjoyer in general. While the original Pac-Man can be played on the go in a million different ways nowadays, the same can not be said for the other included games. Pac-Mania is a great expansion of the original Pac-Man's gameplay, adding new ghosts and a handy jump move. The isometric mock-3D style really sets it apart from other games in the series. Pac-Attack is the only non-maze-type game in the collection. It's a creative spin on normal falling block puzzle games that utilizes Pac-Man's unique mechanics very well. Pac-Man Arrangement is clearly the crown jewel of this collection and said collection remains the only way to play the game portable. My only gripe with this version is that there's no punishment for dying or using a continue, and I think that's kinda lame. It should at least reset the maze after a continue. My only other complaint is the relatively short number of games. I feel like I got my money's worth, but I think one more game would have really sealed the deal for me. Perhaps they could have given us Ms. Pac-Man as well, though I know that game was in a legal hellscape at the time (and still is). The game was bundled with GBA Pac-Man World early on I believe, so at least that's something.
Nevertheless, Pac-Man Collection is good for any person that enjoys video games. If you still have your GBA or DS, this is a great collection to own. It resides in the hitherto unused GBA cart spot in my Pac N Roll box (another great Pac-Man game, by the way).
