Product description
PackIt is the first freezable personal cooler that keeps anything you pack colder, longer– up to 10 hours. PackIt has a patented eco-gel built permanently into the liner, eliminating the need for melting ice or bulky gel packs completely. Have you seen the school lunch menu? Yuck. Plus, buying lunch at work or school every day costs a fortune. PackIt lunch coolers allow you to pack healthy foods you never could before. Yogurt, milk, cheese, even leftovers from the night before stay fresh. The cold eco-gel completely surrounds the bag so food stays colder five times longer than regular lunch bags, even ones that use a separate gel pack. Uneaten food comes home still fresh and goes back into the refrigerator for the next day, which reduces waste and saves you money. PackIt products are designed by moms for moms. PackIt was started by two single mothers concerned with being able to pack healthy lunches for their own children. PackIt coolers are PVC/lead free, non-toxic, lead-tested, earth safe and reusable. Store your folded PackIt in your freezer until you're ready to use. Care: hand wash, not machine or dishwasher safe; allow cooler to dry completely before freezing again.

Who knows... I was watching TV with my kids and this came up on a commercial. I laughed and said "Oh, heh.. funny. I just got one of those."
"WHAT?!?!" my daughter exclaims, "YOU GOT ONE?!?!?! WHERE?! I WANT ONE!"
I guess they had seen it on TV a few times and she has wanted one, so now I guess I'm buying two more. :)
Anyway... it works very well. On humid days you'll get a little moisture on the inside of it, but the outside is insulated against the cold and has so far remained pretty dry. It keeps my food cool easily for about 6-8 hours when indoors, and would keep it cool enough for me to consider it still "safe to eat" for a few more.
I haven't used it outside, so I can't speak to that, but obviously if it's 90 degrees out and you have it out, it's not going to last as long. Simple laws of physics. I know it got panned pretty hard by some others, but I wouldn't worry about it... it's not going to work any worse than anything else in 90 degree weather. Pack your kids a lunch at 8 and it'll be reasonable by their lunch time. That's sort of the point, right?
We've had this product for 3 months now and it's doing its job well. I was a little on the fence about buying this given the mixed reviews, but I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm a researcher, so I tried to keep track of various elements that could impact it's performance. So far, I haven't been able to stumble upon any important factors to take into account aside from the obvious: temperature of the room, the temperature of the contents when placed in the bag, and the size/number of contents placed in the bag.
When my office is kept at 68-70 degrees, the contents of the bag allow it to be closed tightly/easily, and the contents of the bag were all refrigerated beforehand and the bag was kept empty in the freezer overnight, the bag keeps things cold for 6+hours and keeps things cool for up to 9-10 hours. I don't open it until I plan to eat the food.
If I stuff the bag (you can tell it's not closed as tightly as when it's less full), or I pack a sandwich that hasn't been refrigerated, or my office temp goes up to 74 degrees, the bag's performance goes down a bit, though my food has always been at least cool to cold by the time I eat it 5-6 hours later.
We've started using the bag for baby food when traveling. When we place frozen baby food in the bag, it's still frozen 6-6.5 hrs later. Overall, this product does a reasonable job as long as your expectations are reasonable (maybe the company's advertising pushes it a bit).
Second one I bought so that each kid has one. Works well, keeps things cold, like yogurt which was always a gripe with other lunchboxes. Stores easy, seems well made, no rips or holes yet. Only negative which led to 4 stars is the price...hopefully it will prove to worth the $20 with its longevity. **** UPDATE: 12/6/13 **** Not sure I can still recommend this product. It is now in the possession of my mother in law who is trying to fix/resew the velcro strips on it. It is basically useless right now..still keeps items cold but what good is it when the flap just flies open because the velcro is garbage!!! Tried using sticky velcro I had but the freezer made it come right off the next day. For the amount spent, it truly needs a better closure of some sort!!! I will not buy another one until this is fixed. I have bought 2 for my son, so far the last one is still holding up but he doesn't pack as much as my dtr does. Just be prepared, it seems that this is inevitable to occur after much use (talking a year or less!!)

Nice simple, masculine lunch bag, and it does a really good job keeping food cold. It's not very wide, so don't plan on putting any large containers in there, a lot of food, or anything wide that has to lay flat. But great to hold a sandwich, soda can, yogurt, etc. - anything rather narrow.
The gel interior, if left in the freezer overnight, does a rather good job keeping food cold for most of the day, especially if the bag is kept in a cool area (don't try to beat the laws of thermodynamics and expect it to stay cold in a hot car all day). The gel does add quite a bit of heft and thickness to the bag, though. And when fresh out of the freezer, it's pretty stiff. This is to be expected, though, as the gel is frozen.
Overall, great lunch bag for the office or school. One warning: when the gel starts to melt during the day, the interior of the bag will sweat. So expect anything paper or absorbent in the bag to get a little soggy. Again, you can't beat physics.
Almost the perfect bag. If it had a zipper instead of the velcro like my son's "Jake and the Never Land Pirates Treasure Chest Lunchbox Lunch Tote", it'd get five stars. This is my second of this kind of bag and they are affordable enough to not be too concerned that the velcro does wear out over time. They fold up to maybe an inch thick for sticking in the freezer so you don't need a lot of space for it which is also great after your meal -- unless you have some reusable containers that you'll be putting back in it -- which nearly remove the whole point of folding it up... It's a good bag overall.
If I could find a more adult version of that Jake lunchbox though -- I think that's a better one than this overall. However, this bag feels like it may hold in the cold better! Overall, a perfectly good purchase for the price as long as you know the velcro will start to wear out and holding it by the handle just won't work at a certain point as it'll just flop open. :)
This is the third time I have bought this lunch bag, it is absolutely the very best on the market, it does exactly what it says in the description. My husband a builder uses it daily on site to keep his food cool at the safe and correct temperature. It’s so east to clean, and re- freezes over night, not taking a lot of room up in the freezer. What a fantastic product, and of course a freezer kills any missed bacteria. And it does keep the food and drinks completely cold for ten hours. Even when he gets home after a long day at work, anything he has not had time to eat or drink is still cold and okay
Second one I have purchased, folds fairly flat to pop in freezer or cupboard when not in use. Keeps drinks/food cool for several hours. Wipe clean interior, perfect.
