This is a great paella recipe book. The pictures are wonderful, the recipe instructions are easy to follow, and the food selection is great. And I love that although paella is the focus of the book, there are other recipes to compliment the main course. (The sangria recipes are great!)

I initially purchased this cookbook several years ago, when it was still in print. It contains several really good and amazingly simple, screw-up-proof, recipes. The copy I purchased most recently will be given as a Christmas gift. A friend who has experienced my paella several times has repeatedly asked for the recipe. I've told her there is no single "recipe" and that I often combine two or more recipes from this book. So, I will write notes throughout her copy and hope that she will enjoy the results as much as my family has.

Mother and daughter team Maria and Natalía Solís Ballinger take on paellas, tapas, gazpachos and sangrias in this attractively illustrative and informative book. The authors provide a brief, but solid introduction, giving the aspiring paella cook an understanding of the history and culture of paella. They provide 17 tapas, 4 gazpachos, 43 paellas and 2 related dishes, 6 desserts, and 10 sangrias. Most of the paellas serve 6 with one or two serving 8. Some information on the size of the pan to use would help. They have adapted the recipes to fit the needs of the North American supermarket with most ingredients fairly easy to find. Measurements are provided in both metric and English units. The authors rely a little too heavily on canned ingredients but the recipes are clearly written, easy to follow and should not tax the skill levels of the average kitchen cook. This book is a good resource for those who want to make paella but not get into it too deeply.

I have found this book to be the best paella instructional material I've ever seen. It is also a value for its information on Spanish culture and for its outstanding illustrations--truly glorious photography. Altogether, a truly exceptional cookbook.
