Kennedy is struggling to make her business work, but her sleazy landlord Ethan is giving her the run around. When the sexy biker enters the coffee shop and suggests he can offer her more than Ethan, Kennedy decides she hasn't got much to lose and decides to take him up on the offer. She knows it won't be anything serious.
I loved both Kennedy and Pagan. Both of them are stubborn and head strong. Pagan is really sweet to Kennedy and I loved that dirty mouth of his. Bonus was he could back up what he was saying. Kennedy had a lot of pride and was determined to work as hard as she could to be successful. No matter what bad thing happened, she always got back up and kept trying. Her best friend Benny was hilarious and he added a lot to the story. For the most part, this book dealt with the relationship between Kennedy and Pagan. There is some drama but not too much. And of course we get to see old characters, but we also got to meet some new ones.
Looking forward to the next book in this series, or any of the others books in series taking place in Navesink Bank.
Going into these stories about the probies we don't know a whole lot about their backgrounds. We've been given just enough info in a previous book to be intrigued by them and look forward to getting to know their past and what made them into the men they are today. Pagan was definitely one of those. All we knew was he was one of the main fighters for Ross Ward and had joined the Henchman as a probie. He's a chain smoking, tough as nails alpha who lives for a fight. Never saw himself in a relationship or even wanting a woman past a one night stand, that is until he comes across Kennedy and for reasons unknown to him at the time attracts his attention.
Kennedy has struggled her whole life and even with the knocks life has given her she still believes that at some point the tides have to turn in her favor. She owns her own small salon and has hopes of being able to expand in the future. When she meets Pagan she doesnt know what to think of the foul mouthed biker who skirts on the wrong side of the law but she too finds herself attracted.
Even though this is part of the Henchmen MC series the last two books, which are the stories about the probies, changed pace from the earlier books and focus more on the couples. I do miss the excitement and craziness of the earlier books but one thing that never changes is a hot love story. As with most of the couples Jessica writes, they dont look like a match when the book starts but before your done you realize they are perfect for each other.
I really enjoyed Pagan's bluntness and take it or leave it attitude, with multiple orgasms, kind of spirit. It was refreshing, and Kennedy was a great counterpart to him and knew when to stand up and put up. I like it when, although they have pride, they know when to accept something as well. We also got a tantalizing taste of some of the current puppies and a very intriguing sneak peak of a new baddie! It's almost a cliffhanger, but fortunately not, cuz those suck. Jessica is an auto-buy, one-click do not stop here, and read till you drop author.
While this is an outstanding series, including spin-offs, it can be read as a stand-alone. But....geez don't do it! Or if you like this one, trust me, go back and start from the beginning of it and just binge read! ;)
Kennedy is poor. No spoilers, but let me tell you, while money cannot create happiness it can sure help ease the pain of everyday life. Paying bills, budgeting, saving, scrimping, looking for the best deals, and everything becomes taxing. Trust me on this. I grew up poor and still there. I'm not even sure what Middle class looks like.
In this story, it is the combination of two people who try to hide their backgrounds not realizing that the future depends on accepting certain truths about yourself without fooling yourself. This story is really great and I enjoyed every page.
