Paint Chips is not a book just for women. I would think that most men would enjoy reading it as well. The novel is a story with almost all female characters but it is not a book about women. It is a powerful demonstration of the love of God, the healing power of Jesus Christ and the providential work of the Holy Spirit. The subject of sexual exploitation and trafficking is both heart wrenching and eye opening. It is a problem that every responsible individual should have on their radar.
I am glad that I spent the time to read Paint Chips. It wasn't my typical genre of choice but it was well written and was hard to put down. Susie Finkbeiner has begun a promising journey as an author. I give her five stars.
This is not your "feel good" type of novel. In fact, it's rather deep and heartbreaking. With that said, you will become very attached to the characters.
It takes a while to see how these ladies are connected but it is all worth the wait. The story intensifies the further you get into the story. So, be prepared to find a quiet spot to read this book as you will not want to put it down.
The author does a great job in bringing the characters to life and she gives the book enough depth to hold your attention throughout.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys true-to-life women's fiction. This is a VERY well written story. I look forward to reading more by Susie Finkbeiner.
The subject matter of this book is not something that can be taken lightly. The author does an excellent job of respecting the victims of trafficking while writing an engaging story. As a counselor it is my job to empathize with others and help them work through the difficulties from their past. This book is a great tool for helping people recognize that pain is expressed in many ways and that it doesn't have to keep us from doing great things.
Sex trafficking is such a despicable offense in our society. These poor girls treated like dirt & for what? A few moments of selfish gratification?? Yikes! This needs to stop!
Kudos to the author for giving me a rainbow of emotions from cover to cover!!
I can't really tell someone why they should read a this book without giving something important away. So just take my word for it - you have to read this book!
The book is startlingly real and evokes such emotion. I found myself crying and yet refusing to put it down. At times I felt as if I couldn't breathe, just waiting to see what would unfold next. There is so much intrigue and surprise around every corner that you truly feel as if you are right there living alongside the characters through their terror and hopelessness - so each triumph and success by a character feels as if it's your own.
I loved the recurring paint chip theme and the way it characterized the book in its entirety. It is truly a testament to the power of God!
