At first, I used my old colored pencils, but found it difficult to keep a point on them. I purchased Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils and had a much easier time coloring the tiny spaces that are in some of the designs. I always put a piece of notebook paper directly behind the page I'm coloring to protect those pages. I found that the pressure I use when coloring the page will cause the black ink, used in the book, to transfer onto the pages that are behind the one I'm coloring. The black ink is transferred onto the notebook paper instead, keeping the pages behind the one I'm coloring neater.
I'm having fun with this book and can't wait til I have time to color another picture.
The Paisley Designs Coloring Book is so much creative fun, adults will adore it. Dover puts out some of the best publications like this. If you're stuck in the house on a rainy day, staying home sick from work, or just looking for some cool coloring fun -- I highly recommend this book!
Did you know that? I did not. That is the note from inside the first page of Paisley Designs Coloring Book by Marty Noble. Just reading this tidbit I already feel I made a good decision to buy. This beautifully drawn, Dover-publicated book has 30 pages of bird, butterfly, flower, Indian tapestry and even peacock inspired paisley designs. Flipping through the book, it is initially very appealing and my first impression is that it is a keeper!
Marty Noble has come from a long line of artists. No wonder she has the talent she does. Her work in Paisley Designs Coloring Book is quite different enough from her Creative Haven Mehndi Designs: Traditional Henna Body Art Coloring Book to warrant owning both books. I thought they were going to be the same, even similar. But they are quite the opposite.
While some of the designs are similar in their first appearance, I feel that each page is truly unique. The line work ranges from moderately thin to thick throughout the book. Some of the spaces are tiny so a fine tipped pen or sharpened pencil will be the tool to use. On individual pages I felt the images were varied enough to not get repetitive and they were not too small to be tedious nor too large to be boring.
The price per image in Paisley Designs is around $0.133. A great deal.Read more ›

The pictures are fun but front and back cause gel pens to bleed through...seller never stated this in the description of coloring book...paper is thin also...what a bummer!!!Published 6 days ago by Amazon Customer
Poor paper quality - extremely thin. Designs look photocopied, none of the lines are sharp. It's all blurry.Published 16 days ago by Rebecca
The designs are really nice. But, when you color it with colored pencils, the ink transfers to all the facing pages below, ruining the design.Published 17 days ago by RainByrd77

I used nothing but gel pens with this book, especially super fine point pens because details can be so very tiny. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Cindy Maki
