Pajama Time! is a good-night book with the irrepressible language, the inimitable illustrations, the irresistible cast of characters only Sandra Boynton could create.
A jump-roping chicken and a pig on a swing. A Scottie in plaid pajamas and an elephant in a fuzzy one-piece with feet. And in sing-along nuttiness reminiscent of Barnyard Dance!, it's time to head to bed-to the beat: Pajammy to the left. Pajammy to the right. Jamma jamma jamma jamma P!J! Everybody's wearing them for dancing tonight. Jamma jamma jamma jamma P!J!

About the author

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, children's author, songwriter, producer, and director. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over sixty children's books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times Bestsellers. More than 70 million of her books have been sold, "mostly to friends and family," she says. She has also written (with Michael Ford) and produced six albums of renegade children's music. Three of her six albums have been certified Gold [over 500,000 copies sold] and "Philadelphia Chickens," nominated for a Grammy, has been certified Platinum [over 1 million copies sold.] Boynton has also directed twelve music videos of her songs, including the award-winning "One Shoe Blues" starring B. B. King, "Alligator Stroll" starring Josh Turner, and "Tyrannosaurus Funk" (animation) sung by Samuel L. Jackson. She lives in rural New England, and her studio is in a barn with perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

As with most other board books, sometimes I change the wording a bit. I’ll shorten pajama to PJ, or add in something funny that relates to my son. He gets so excited about this book that he brings it to me all day long.
I highly recommend this and all other Sandra Boynton books if your little one is learning to talk!! We’ve been reading them since he was about 5 months, and he loves every single one.
Hope this helps! ☺️
Wonderful purchase and highly recommended for babies up through preschool, just don't be surprised when your 5 or 6 year occasionally asks you to find this one or brings it to you to read too!
content. It shows page after page of a child in different colors of pajamas, but I failed to
see the point of it, unlike so many other favorite Boylston books for this age group, like
Barnyard Dance which was a great hit! I suppose it’s possible to read it as a way to
learn colors, but I was looking for a bedtime book.
I'm a reading education specialist, and I love Boynton's books for the following reasons:
-Sturdy board books, great for little hands
-Colorful, uncomplicated pictures
-Simple vocabulary familiar to a young child but with the occasional unexpected zinger thrown in (like "aardvark" at the end of "But Not the Hippopotamus")
-Rhyming verse, wonderful for introducing young prereaders to the cadence of language
-Stories based on everyday events familiar to even very young children
-Gentle humor
Here's a tip for readers: Boynton books are meant to be kinetic. Lean to the left and right, dance the barnyard dance, sing the song-verses, ~whisper~ the little words and BOOM out the words in all caps, smack kisses loudly. These books aren't just read; they're experienced. Boynton books make reading fun--the better to entice little ones into becoming enthusiastic lifelong readers. (They're fun for the adult reader, too, and bear up well under requests for repeated readings.)
