Be swept away by magic in the village of Mull, where palaces appear with no builders in sight. Follow the mysteries that lead to a killer. Wonder at the story surrounding the people who work and live in the palace. Who is this new king? What might he be hiding? Questions upon questions with no answers in sight...or are there.
An exceptional story plot with characters who are written in a manner that makes them feel so real, I could almost hear their voices. I love the imagery and the pull Josie feels for the Captain!
Josie, the Doctor's daughter and local midwife, has spent years studying under her father. She's unable to become a doctor herself, as women cannot become doctors! She's mistaken as a doctor, when she stitches up a wounded palace guard in a field. From that moment on, Josie feels pulled to the palace. When she and her father are called to the palace to treat a young lady, her interest only grows, as does her attraction to the handsome and very serious Captain.
I got this book and started reading immediately. It captured my imagination and curiosity so deeply that I could not stop reading until the end. I already have pre-ordered the second book and cannot wait until it is released!
I recommend this book to everyone, no matter what genre you normally read. This book has something for everyone. I highly recommend this author and urge you to read all her books, they are engaging and you'll want to read them all!

The characters draw you in, while the plot takes you in one direction and then another. The plot line is very clever and the characters are great, coming to life with C.J's clever and imaginative writing.
Josie makes an intelligent, beautiful, inquisitive and empathetic heroine, while the handsome, mysterious, stoic Captain Hammer is a delicious mystery waiting to be unwrapped!
C.J keeps you wanting more, but it is the way in which she brings Hammer, Josie, Max, Erik, Quentin, Brandt, Balthazar, Theo and the King to life that really draws you in and leaves you wanting more!
There is a lot of humour, wit, camaraderie and bubbling sexual tension weaved all the way through this book. The Palace of Lost Memories leaves you wanting to start the second book in this series immediately. I loved it!
She is an independent thinking woman in a world where that wasnt really allowed.
The scenario is a little bit like a medieval world with slightly more modern thinking people. think Tudor England and 1920s minded characters.
There is a mystery that does get solved and another ongoing one which I was slightly miffed to find was not.
It has its fun moments and darker waves.
I felt this could really have been longer and have come to a conclusion regarding the unfinished mystery as it became more and more obvious as I neared the end of the book, that there was no sudden revelation .
I would read the next one to find out the answer but if it got to the end of that one without an explanation, that would be that.
The main characters are well written and the supporting ones are good too. I'd recommend this series to anyone who loves a darn good read. Cannot wait until the next one is released
The doctors daughter and the Commander of the Guard strike up a special relationship. It is that friendship that keeps her safe despite her blundering around in places and palaces she not meant to be in!
I will read book 2
