WMCA, the radio station I listened to back in the early 60s, used to play this. I never got to Palisades Park, which was just across the river from us, but I have fond memories of the song. As it turns out, so does my husband, and when he mentioned it, I bought it for him. It's such a bouncy, fun song. Palisades Park is closed now, and the WMCA Good Guys are long gone, but we'll always have Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon telling us about the girl he met on the Shoot the Chute and stole a kiss from in the Tunnel of Love..

Another tune that is so embedded in the pre-British Invasion early Sixties that you can't help be whisked back to that time when you listen to it. If you weren't born then, you really should take a stroll down memory lane and look into the music scene of the time. That way, you'll appreciate this song the way us baby-boomers do.

I remember Palisades Park well (the song AND the place). I was a semi-regular at the Park--I lived about 40 miles from it, and when you were 15 years old, didn't drive and were somewhat lacking in "disposable income", it was difficult to get down there, but I managed--and when this song came out everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, wanted to go there. The tone of the song fit the tone of the park perfectly--exciting, fun, and you're guaranteed to have a good time. Even more importantly, spending a day at the park wouldn't bankrupt you the way spending a day at, say, Disneyland will. Great place to have fun, hang out with your friends and hook up with hot New York City chicks. The song--written by Chuck Barris of "The Gong Show" infamy, of all people--captures the mood of the place perfectly, and Freddy Cannon shows why he was nicknamed "Boom Boom". A hell of a lot of fun.
