The carport was still in "like new" condition...until the tree landed on it. The car parked under the carport was undamaged! The structure served admirable as a crumple zone and absorbed all the energy from the falling tree - in essence the carport gave its life to save the car. You can only expect so much strength from a light weight aluminum structure, but since all my neighbors remaining trees are significantly smaller than this one, and none of them are dead yet, I am confident this Palram Vitoria will protect whatever I park under it well into the future.
If you are looking for a carport, you know that your options are extremely limited to mostly tube steel and sheet metal construction. That's all well and good if you live on a farm. I live in northern NJ where the zip code warrants something a little more tasteful. Palram filled the bill. I haven't found a single other carport which can match this one for architectural appeal.
Living in NJ, it is very common for us to get 12 inches of snow at a clip. I am quite convinced this will handle the snow load and am looking forward to getting in my car this winter without brushing it off! As you will see by the pictures, this is an awesome carport to park your BMW under.
Finally, and most importantly: ignore the directions at your peril. I have never experienced such clearly communicated and documented steps for construction. The directions are so easy and specific that you will kick yourself if you do not read them before, during and after assembly. They couldn't make this any easier. Finally finally, no matter how good you are, there are two steps where two people are necessary. No getting around it. I had my wife, all 5'2" of her, at my disposal and we did it. This is not hard, just follow the directions and viola! Oh yeah, those acorns this year? They are already bouncing off the roof and rolling harmlessly away from the car.
We have had this up for about 7 months. We wanted something that would work to create a dry space for entering or exiting the car (and for loading or unloading groceries and so on). We also specifically did not want something that would make the space in front of our cottage dark or shaded. This really fit the bill perfectly.
It is not the easiest thing to assemble. The directions warn you that two people are needed for some of the steps, and this is true. On the other hand, for the cost of the kit, we got a really good looking carport. My husband says that the actual assembly, not counting pouring the concrete footings, will take two men about two days.
While the clear panels filter the light (and probably provide some UV protection) this does not truly create "shade." We live in northern California, and we will probably rig a sunshade (using mesh shade cloth) for use in the summer). This is not a lack of the Palram, because we chose this partly because we did not want a permanent dark hulking structure right outside of our cottage.
We love it, and people do remark on the attractiveness of this carport. It is very nicely designed.
I agree with the customer who said it was better priced when Costco had it - isn't everything? However, we didn't catch it when Costco had it (in fact we checked online at the time we bought it to see if Costco had it, and they did not, at the time of our purchase). Overall, for the design, sturdiness, et cetera, this is a great product at a great price.
Assembly is a two-person job but very simple thanks for their clear instructions. The only difficulty with my situation was I had to add a footer on each leg to raise up the height of the carport in order to fit my van in and reinforced two of the legs by attaching each of them with a chain to a 4x4 wood post fixed to the ground.

It will probably be so much useful if the roof panels were
