Blog postDemob Happy is one of those bands I accidentally keep seeing. I’ve seen them twice now, and I was scheduled to see them a third time until COVID-19 ruined it. Like Sick Joy, who you must know by now I love dearly, they’re from Newcastle but based in Brighton, and the bands are good mates. Playing shows together is sort of inevitable.
It could be worse.

Blog postHard at work.
This is actual footage of me writing. I don’t often photograph myself writing, and it’s sort of hard without a tripod or selfie stick. Luckily, I’ve got long arms!
I have several projects on the go at the moment, but what I have mostly been working on rece

Blog postThe lyrics of this song just seem so appropriate at the moment. I love Foo Fighters, and that’s no secret, so they have featured on my blog before, but sometimes, a song just gets under your skin when stuff happens.

Blog postSulo, my dad’s dog, missing Christmas.
I think we all feel a bit like this at the moment. Not just because Christmas is over, but because we can’t see our loved ones, and despite the vaccinations starting, the COVID-19 figures seem to be going through the roof, making

Blog postI happened to hear this song recently and was reminded of how beautiful it is. I confess that I only know the Urban Hymns era The Verve, but that album spawned so many excellent singles. It’s a bit of a classic.
Also, this song’s got a proper message.

Blog postHappy New Year!
I’m pretty sure most people agree 2021 can’t be much worse than 2020. With vaccinations happening, we can hopefully finally put COVID-19 behind us.

Blog postI know I featured Manic Street Preachers here only recently and I shared a Christmas song only last week, but I discovered this just in time for Christmas. I had to share it. It’s a Christmas song by the Manics. Come on!

Blog postMy Christmas tree.
Happy Christmas!
This is our Christmas tree this year. It didn’t exactly go to plan. We set it up first, with lights and all, then discovered the day after that one set of lights was not working. My partner went out and got a new set of lights - a pac

Blog postIt’s Christmas!
I’m not generally speaking into Christmas albums. I mean, isn’t it a pain when a band you’re into releases an awesome album that you can only listen to for a month every year? Argh - the frustration!
Still, I like Goo Goo Dolls, so what’s a girl to do? Buy their Christmas album, of course.

Blog postIt’s funny how architecture is so different between countries. Take churches, for example. My hometown in Finland is known as a home to many religions and their gathering places - churches, temples, whatever they are called for each religion.
Most Finns are Lutheran, and this is the church in my town. It’s timber, like so many buildings in Finland are, owing to all our forests and a busy forestry industry. It’s beautiful, but for some reason, I have always found stone buildings more ap1 month ago Read more -
Blog postThis is not a light-hearted song. The lyrics are awful, but I mean that in a good way. Try listening to the words and not being touched.
It’s all about perspective.

Blog postThese two were so cute cuddling last night! My partner and I were on the couch, watching our latest obsession, Spirited, and Dexter was asleep between my legs. Then we let one of the other dogs out, and while the door was open, our kitten, Vernon, sneaked in. He loves Dexter, and the feeling is mutual. Dexter, while he can be wary with people, loves all other animals. He’s a bit like myself in that regard.

Blog postI stumbled across this band by accident recently. I was looking for a completely different band on Spotify, but this crowd had a track by the same title, and since the album cover caught my eye, I decided to give them a shot. I must say, they’re pretty good.
Isn’t life funny sometimes?

Blog postA total change of pace from what I usually share.
I am not a fan of Will Young’s music although I confess he impressed me as an actor on Bedlam. I do, however, enjoy this song. That’s probably not right… It’s very emotional, full of pain, both the lyrics and his vocals, so ‘enjoy’ is not the right word, but it’s a good song.
‘Nuff said.

Blog postBenny. <3
My golden oldie.
Look at that face! Butter wouldn’t melt.
At 15.5 years of age, Benny is still going strong. Yes, he has slowed down, but he is happy, healthy, active, affectionate and pleasant to have around. He’s certainly mellowed out with age because he cou

Blog postI usually share music videos here, and they’re always from YouTube. I’m going to break that monotony today. I’m the boss of my own blog after all, and I can post what I want in it. (That’s pretty empowering.)
This is Sick Joy performing at a socially distanced show at Brighton Dome this Halloween gone. It’s only about half of the show - none of the bands got much time on stage - but two of the three songs are brand new.

Blog postI was going for a run the other day and was taking one of them with me. Guess which one?
I think Vernon is convinced he’s a dog - like a super dog that can climb walls and jumps really high. I’m sure we’re not helping. As experienced dog owners, we struggle to understand how to deal with a cat.
It’s OK - our last cat turned out sort of catlike…

Blog postPerhaps a controversial opinion that nobody cares about, but I prefer the acoustic version to the album version. I rarely do, but in this case, it just adds to the sarcastic and ironic feel of the song. I mean, sure we’ve all felt that way at some point in our lives, right?
