In Panacea, F. Paul Wilson mixes medical thriller, religious cults, and good old fashioned murder in a race around the world adventure sure to get your heart pounding.
Laura and Rick are terrific characters – very different, though equally badass in the best possible ways. And the situations Wilson puts them in are no holds barred – dangerous, exhilarating, and, at times, heart breaking.
This was one of those one sitting reads for me. I literally didn’t stop until I reached the end.
Panacea was a blast of an adventure and is highly recommended. Wilson is simply one of the best thriller writers around!
What if there WAS a cure for everything? Just one simple cure that can handle something as simple as the common cold, yet, can bring you back from the edge of death from the world's worst diseases. And that cure was in the possession of a group of people who hid it from the world but used their secret to quietly save those that they can? AND...what if there is a society who looked on this cure and these people as a blasphemy before God?
Well that's the story that F. Paul Wilson delivers and he delivers it with a BANG!! Placing this book squarely within the framework of his SECRET HISTORY OF THE WORLD mega-world. It's s race against time to points around the globe as one group tries to uncover the mystery while being pursued by others who want to bury it for all eternity.
After wrapping up his Repairman Jack/Adversary saga, Wilson has thrilled us with the Teen and Early Years trilogies...BUT...with PANACEA he once more hits it out of the park with a story deeply entrenched in the author's medical background.
While you're reading keep your eyes open for those little Easter eggs that let you know that there are NO coincidences...AND...EVERYTHING is tied to everything else.
What did I like? I could not put it down. I downloaded a sample this morning when it came up as a recommendation. I'm a huge fan of F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack novels, as well as pretty much everything else of his that I've read. I read the sample, bought the Kindle copy immediately, and did not put it down until I finished it. No laundry, no grocery shopping, no shower! Just solid reading. What could be better on the weekend!!!
The premise of a single cure for all illnesses is fascinating! The international locales, interwoven sub-plots, and interesting characters (on all sides of the struggle) made it thoroughly enjoyable!
I am quite sure I will need to re-read it many times to completely catch all of the nuances. Can't wait for the next book in the series which comes out soon.
Intriguing storyline with plenty of twists to keep one guessing. Extensive research with descriptive writing that both educates and entertains the reader.
Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking, informative and memorable dialogue.
'A gun is like a parachute; if you really need one and don’t have one, you’ll never need one again.'
I will re-read this book and always look forward to works by this author.
