Panasonic 1.4-Liter Kettle
A Fusion of Form and Function
As part of the iconic Breakfast Collection from Panasonic, this premium kettle features a sleek finish, in either violet or smoke, which beautifully offsets its majestic profile and stylish glass and stainless-steel trim. Combining modern yet timeless aesthetics, the kettle makes a visually stunning addition to any kitchen, while its square shape fits neatly in the corner or against a backsplash, helping to save on valuable counter space.
To use, simply fill the kettle with water using the water-level window for guidance, return it to the power base, and flip the seesaw switch to "on". A blue LED indicator provides at-a-glance assurance that hot water will be ready in no time.
The kettle's 360-degree rotating power base allows for setting the kettle down or picking it up from any direction. The kettle provides a stainless-steel interior with encased elements and a washable lime-scale filter to help ensure high-quality results. On the outside, the kettle features a large, stay-cool handle, a push-open lid, and a drip-free spout for graceful pouring.
Durably constructed and designed with safety in mind, the kettle features a non-exposed heater, automatic shut-off for peace of mind, and a cool-touch exterior, making it exceptionally family friendly.
Enjoy a hot beverage anytime--anything from tea or instant coffee to creamy hot cocoa--with help from this convenient kettle by Panasonic. Use the kettle on its own or pair it with coordinating appliances (sold separately) from Panasonic's Breakfast Collection.

Negative first: price. OMG price! Did I just spend that?
I hate the forced pause between heating multiple pots. Honestly? This isn't a huge deal 9 times out of 10 that I use it. But when I want to steep the really big pot of tea? Oh, bother!
Positives. Or: why I'm not going to sweat the price and the slight botheration.
It's purple. I know that's shallow, but it caught my eye. It makes me smile. Good enough. I mean, why not appreciate whimsy when you see it.
It's blocky. I like that. It's nonsensical, but I like it.
Wide mouth, easy fill. *Easy clean!*
Cordless pot on a swivel stand.
Exterior fill line (but also an embossed interior "max" line)
But (crucially important for me): ***exterior temp well below burning!*** I am the person who will accidentally grab the pot, not the handle. That right there? Worth it.
It is pretty to look at, but it is heavy and the water gauge on the outside is difficult to see. It might not be a big deal for the younger set, but if you have weak wrists, arthritis, or just can't lift heavy objects very well, it could be a problem. Perhaps younger folks would be able to see the water level better, but it is so small and since the glass is somewhat tinted, that I think most people will have difficulty reading it.
The stainless steel interior is nice, and it doesn't drip when pouring. However, the opening is not very large, and you have to pour carefully when you are filling ti with water. The swivel base is nice, but many products have that now. Some people might appreciate the adjustable cord length, but I don't have a need for a longer cord on counter top appliances, so it didn't really affect my assessment of this product.
I was disappointed in this item. It is very expensive for being a fancy hot pot.
Not boring, not retro, this group is all about chic minimalism. I can only comment on the gray (darn!), and it is indeed a handsome unit that would just as at home in the boardroom as it is in the kitchen.
The gray panels wipe clean with ease, the 'metal' sides with show a fingerprint from all but the most spotless of hands. The base is gray, which gets a HUGE thumbs up, as that is the first place to get a water stain.
Ever have a cordless kettle that you thought was on the base, and returned to a kettle of cold water? This one fits perfectly, and swivels all the way, even while heating. Inside, stainless...but then the hot water flows through the cheap plastic spout.
And this is not a cheap unit.
Whenever a company does a specialty line of matching appliances, the price of each skyrockets. Remember Hamilton Beach's Eclectrics line? If those gave you sticker shock, Jenn-Air introduced the Attrezzi line around 2004, and if memory serves, I paid a few hundred for the toaster, and I'm ashamed of what I paid for the matching mixer. This was before KitchenAid came out with a copper mixer. Thankfully, the entire Jenn-Air Attrezzi line was quietly discontinued, as they were plagued with issues, but the POINT is, you pay a lot for DESIGN.
I like, no...LOVE when appliances or any 'everyday' object is infused with a creative or unusual design. And certainly willing to pay more for 'functional art'. If this unit had more whistles and bells, such as a beep or variable temps, or even just a metal spout, the retail price would be more in line.
Yes, the biggest flaw to this beauty is that darn plastic spout! I can accept that a matching line, the technology that makes it quiet and spin, and the salary of the design team...all cost a lot more than a generic kettle.
All that great stuff, topped with a cheezy spout?
But if you like the clean and unique look, and prefer a quiet cuppa as opposed to a loud, sputtering kettle, the price is high, but not off the chart crazy.
UPDATE 9/5/13: Still going strong with daily use, so added a star. By the way, I have used and reviewed the Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature 1.8-Liter Kettle, and it has been nothing but problem after problem until it finally wound up as landfill. Customer support was not very helpful, although since one issue was right after opening the box, Amazon sent a new unit.
