Ive had this camera for about 2 months now and I really enjoy it! I know searching for cameras and picking one to buy is a longggg process so hopefully this helps some.

I purchased this camera to film skate videos mostly in my spare time. but I also shoot weddings and other gigs on the side. So the XLR ports were important to me for the weddings. THERE IS NO 3.5in MIC JACK on this camera. That is not something i knew when buying it..So if you have a Rode video mic (like i did, and was hoping to use until i could afford a nice XLR shotgun) you won't be able to use it with this camera.

okay main pros and cons..

Pros
-GREAT image quality for the price. I was blown away. the 1080 by 60p is just stunning. the colors look great for such a small chip
-the zoom is AWESOME. really smooth and the i25X zoom works great. it doesn't look like the usual crappy digital zoom it looks and works great! i was seriously blown away by this feature.
- Its pretty light for its size. I would consider this a larger camcorder. having owned a few in my day, this is one of the biggest Prosumers I've owned compared to vx1000, GL2, Sony V1U, and Panasonic HMC40 I'm pretty confident this is the largest one, but super light. the plastic build really helps with the weight making it good to carry around for a long time.
-DUAL SD SLOTS, i cannot tell you how helpful it is to have a constant backup of my clips. really saves you if one card fails.
-overall just a great camera. I am happy with my purchase.

Cons
-the screen..I will go into more depth about this in a second.
- no 3.5in mic imput. (but i already talked about that)
-difficult to use with lens attachments. its a 49mm thread size and you have to remove the lens hood.

I used an HMC40 for a couple years. I replaced that with a JVC PX100, which I immediately returned as it didn't come close to competing with the HMC40. I decided to go with the AG-AC90 and it just arrived yesterday.

I filmed a football game last night, and I couldn't be happier with my decision!!!

Most of the menus and controls are very similar to the HMC40, so I was able to get rolling within about an hour of opening the box. What stood out immediately was the smooth action of the zoom rocker. I was able to control the zoom speed much better than all other camcorders I've used. When I got home and viewed the footage on my PC, I was impressed with how well the camera performed in low light! No grain at all, and crystal-clear results.

If you are considering this camera, I really recommend going for it.

I can't say enough great things about the AGAC 90. I have used many high end cameras over the years for local and national news including documentary work, production work, and this is honestly one of my new favorites. It's a wonderful camera that produces crisp images and it's very easy to use. Not too big or too small, so it looks professional. Sometimes it sends an amateurish vibe to your clients if the cameras are so tiny. The 90 seems to be the perfect size.

I use the 90 along with a Canon DSLR (70D) for more of a run-and-gun camera to gather fast moments in the field. Auto focus is spot on and my keeper shot rate is as good as it gets. The intelligent auto feature is surprisingly good to where you can point and shoot and focus on the art of storytelling without fussing around with all the technical features. That's important to me as I also conduct my own interviews while shooting, so I can't be baby sitting the camera all the time. With the 90, I can hit play and let it go knowing and trusting it will work while I conduct interviews.

I was surprised at how little noise I get when shooting in low light conditions so it's great in low light. The stabilization is as good as it gets. It is a bit front heavy so be sure to have a tripod head that can balance it -- I picked up the Manfrotto 701 HDV head and it's a perfect match to the 90. Also, and this is not a huge concern, but it does not have auto audio for mics that plug into the camera, so you need to be sure to monitor the audio.

I love how it has 2 SD card slots. I can shoot 6 hours (full 1080 HD) on one 64 gig card as compared to 1.5 hours when using DSLR, so it does not hog up memory, which is really nice. I use it with FCP 7 and the images load and transfer perfectly.

I purchased the Camcorder with some hesitation, because at the time the Panasonic AG-AC90A was out as well and the cost was about the same. I called Amazon and also placed a post to find out what the difference was between the two camcorders with little to no concrete answers. For the record the Panasonic AG-AC90A IS THE MOST recent and updated Camcorder between the two.

The AC90 CAN be updated to become the AC90A with a firmware update, its not really that hard to do. If you are thinking about making the purchase you just have to consider wither you want to buy one already updated for about the same cost or update it yourself.

I did get a response back from Amazon stating that it didn't look like there was going to be a clear answer to my request anytime soon which seemed ridiculous to me, so I called Panasonic and here is a copy of the transcript of my conversation with Panasonic on the issue. Subject:

Agent Krisitna J. says: Thank you for contacting Panasonic Solutions for Business. My name is Kristina. How can we assist you today?

Customer ROY says: Good morning Kristina, I just purchased the panasonic AC90 and used the June 2014 firmware update, does that make the AC90, an AC90A
Customer ROY says: Is this the only difference between the two cameras?
Agent Krisitna J. says: Do you mind holding while we research that information?
