Product Description

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera is Panasonic's latest digital compact camera to offer an f/2.8 aperture across the full range of its zoom. And given that the full range runs to 600mm (in 35mm format), that's saying something. The lens on the FZ200 is a 24x optical zoom lens that starts at the wide angle end as a 25mm and zooms all the way to 600mm. This is an incredible range that encompasses all the focal lengths you could ever need and it offers an f/2.8 aperture at all of those lengths. Normally, this is something that only high end professional lenses offer, but with this Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens, you can have the speed and light collecting ability of an f/2.8 in an easy-to- use, easy-to-hold compact camera. It's hard to understate the improvements your photos will show, especially zoom close-ups, when you are shooting at f/2.8. The f/2.8 will allow you to use faster shutter speeds at full zoom or lower light and get sharp, blur-free images. Add to that, the Light Speed Auto Focus and 12 frames per second burst shooting speed and you have no reason to ever miss a shot. Really.
Also, a newly developed 12.1 MP high sensitivity MOS sensor and high performance LSI Venus Engine image processor equal high speed response to match the lens' speed and sensitive, high resolution image quality that will make all those shots you're now able to get, worth getting. In addition to high speed continuous shooting and Auto Focus, the Venus Engine image processor also offers quick start-up time and High Speed Video up to 240 frames per second which will slow down fast-moving subjects for awesome slo-mo.

Owned this camera for nearly 2 months now and I'm loving it. I like to take pictures of nature- flowers, insects etc. and the rest of the family take a lot of indoors, sometimes at events in big auditoriums where lighting isn't ideal and zoom is needed. The continuous 2.8 focal length zoom is amazing. I had now idea what this meant until I used it in a poorly lit auditorium.
Pros:
Ai+ -I'm an amateur, this feature make my shots look professional.
Battery life - I was worried because of some negative battery reviews I read. Just came of an 8 days vacation, I had to recharge battery once.
Manual settings- This is the first camera that inspired me to learn to use the manual features, all the buttons you need seem to be right under your thumb....very intuitive.
Three function buttons- well placed and easy to configure. You can configure these buttons to bring up features you use most.
HD video-great quality, Not saying it doesn't exist but haven't yet heard the zoom motor sound that others complain about.
Cons:
Scene mode- With the Ai+ feature that works so well, this feature seem underwhelming. I only use the HDR and Panoramic.
I'm so giddy (happy) with the features that work well. By the time I fine more cons it will be time to upgrade.

I definitely recommend this camera to anyone who want to learn to take great pictures without the frustration that usually happen when you can't figure out how to use the features on a camera.

The Camera is fantastic on several aspects. The iA mode is right on 95% of the cases, the iA+ mode allows to easily play with the Depth Of Field, the exposure and the color saturation. In Manual modes (and Program, Aperture, Speed modes) you can adjust all the parameters including ISO and focus manually. The diamond of the camera (the rock!) is the Leica zoom lens (25mm to 600mm equivalent 35mm) which can open to 2.8 on the full range of the zoom.

I am highly critical about photography, thusly cameras, too, yet on a modest budget.

This Lumix/FZ200 by Panasonic has been all over in the 16 months I have had it. Shot a wedding at Tybee Island, Ga. Arches National Park. Canyonlands N.P. The San Juans up at 13,000ft in the snow. The Channel Islands of Santa Barbara. Not once did I use a the flash. This is a really versatile camera. The Leica lens was a big selling point for me.

this camera is great, low cost(as compared to a full size dslr), has great 2.8f zoom thru out full zoom range, burst shooting is very good for any camera and tops for its class, it is light and feels good in the hands. it is a perfect camera for everyday use and for any non pro shooter. best of all it was just over 400 dollars, can't beat that with any camera that i have seen.

I ordered the camera, and it arrived as a Japanese language camera! Documentation, CD, and camera menus and displays in ONLY Japanese. Amazon suggested returning it and ordering again - which I did - and the second camera came in as Japanese again. There is no selection to change language, and all materials, like the first time, were only in Japanese.

I called Panasonic support and they said that the model number was correct but that the supplier (Amazon and their distributors) were shipping a Japanese "market" version instead of the US "market" version. Same model number, but the wrong "market."

Then, I ordered the DMC-FZ200 (no -K at the end) from Amazon and got the right camera. Panasonic says that the -K simply means that the color is black.

Based on my experience, I would not order the -K version from Amazon. The DMC-FZ200 came in correctly and it performs just as I expected it to. An amazing camera with full F2.8 throughout an amazing zoom range - excellent photos in low light - movies are fantastic, and you have the same Fstop and zoom ability in movies.

Received my FZ200 2 days ago.... After 100 plus test photos I Love this camera. Fantastic photos, great low light performance, amazing detail in all modes, including telephoto and close up. Spectacular colors. Capabilities far beyond what I expected for the price.

I studied the Houghton FZ 200 Youtube web sites a week before I got my FZ 200, to prepare me for full use and evaluation of the camera. Automatic Point and shoot mode photos are great, but with minor tweaking you can move up to spectacular results.

I have a Canon T3i and there is little if any difference, even when comparing 8 1/2 X 11 test photos, This is my new Go To camera.

Rating: 4.5/5

Pros:
-F/2.8 Lens throughout the entire zoom range!!
-Excellent overall image quality
-Sharp sharp SHARP images
-Bright and colourful pictures
-Great weight and feel
-Did I say f/2.8?

Cons:
-Occasionally loses highlights
-Poorly written user manual

Conclusion: Even though the Panasonic FZ200 is a little bit older now, it still remains my top choice whenever I am recommending a big-zoom camera to friends and family. If "only 12 MP" is a big concern, pause for a moment and take a step back. This camera, while only 12 MP, out-performs almost every other camera in its class in terms of image quality. Why? That killer f/2.8 lens. Because this lens has such a wide aperture, it can take photos no other big zoom camera can in lighting conditions that would send other cameras away shaking (literally). Not only is it excellent in low light, the lens is SHARP throughout the entire zoom range. Colours are bright and wonderful. Operation is quick and painless. The only reason it loses half a star is the camera (like most small sensor cameras) tends to blow out highlights a little bit. It's a fairly moot point, considering how great the rest of this package is. Even though it doesn't have the longest zoom or the highest resolution, the FZ200 is a camera I will recommend to everyone in the market for a super zoom.
