.. but just so-so wifi connection with my desktop Dell 9200 PC. . Signal drops. Router nearby and all my other devices work fine.
Update: Even if I prioritize the desktop with my Google multi-nest router and reconfigure the network adapter via the Win10 Troubleshooter the signal still drops, esp while viewing YouTube videos.
Update 10/17/2022: Finally reconfigured the Wifi device thru the Windows 10 to select only the 5 GHz signal when I queried the patient Panda rep. He finally acknowledged that was another solution in addition to prioritizing the PC desktop via my Google Home app under “devices”. Now the signal drops much less but YT videos still occasionally go to the buffer mode at which point I have to use the Win 10 troubleshooter and reconfigure the Panda wifi network adapter. Not perfect but better. The Dell desktop is old and yet it’s updated and works for my needs. No issues whatever with newer chips and software on my other devices

With the update to Ubuntu 22.04LTS, the internal 802.11 card no longer works. As I wait for a firmware fix from Canonical (that "makes" Ubuntu), I still need IEEE 802.11 (wifi) connectivity to the Internet (and web). This Panda N600 Dual Band (2.4GHz & 5.0GHz) 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter worked without rebooting the computer nor requiring any special driver or software, and the graphical user interface network connection manager successfully connected the computer to the wifi access point and the Internet/Web. I have no information as to the long term durability of the Panda adapter.

Linux-Compatible 5 GHz Ralink Adapter; Slower Than PAUO6 With High-Gain Adapter in 2.4 GHz

This (PAUO7) is perhaps the best 5 GHz wireless adapter that you can purchase at the moment that is 100% compatible with Linux. However, that is not to say that this product is without it's flaws, sadly. The great thing about Panda Wireless adapters is that they are all have Ralink chips. Ralink develops and maintains GPL drivers for all of their products, which are included directly in the Linux kernel. Before I review, I'll make note that I live in a remote area so there is no interference with the 2.4 or 5 GHz spectrum which allows me to reach maximum throughput capabilities of wireless hardware.

I will warn that this particular model gets very hot, very quickly. It requires a lot of power draw to reach close to advertised speeds, although don't expect much more than 150-200 Mbps when using this on a desktop. If you are using this with a laptop, you will not be able to achieve more than 5MB/sec transfers (40 Mbps) which is the same for both 5GHz and 4GHz because USB ports on laptops aren't able to fully drive them to their potential. This might be a bit different if you are using a laptop with USB 3.0 ports, but I do not have such a laptop. Do not purchase this if you are going to be primarily using it for 2.4 GHz connections because it actually performs worse (about half as fast) than the previous model (PAUO6) that features a high gain antenna. It will, however, overheat after a while and potentially cause occasional disconnects.

TL;DR:
- 100% GPL Ralink driver support in the Linux kernel
- Requires a lot of power, and laptops aren't able to give enough power to the USB port
- Only capable of 40 Mbps (5MB/s) when used with a laptop, due to power issues
- Achieves upwards to around 150 Mbps when used on a USB port on a desktop
- Overheats and causes occasional disconnects
- Is actually slower using the 2.4GHz spectrum than the PAUO6, about half as fast
- Only purchase if 5 GHz is a requirement

I bought this product because the wireless adapter in my Lenovo notebook stopped working long time ago and did not have the urgency to used and started using the Ethernet port and connect it directly to my router. But the Ethernet wire laying around was turning into an inconvenience unless my notebook was next the router. I did some research in the Linux forums and found that this was one of the few alternatives that will let me connect wirelessly to my router and give my Notebook the mobility that it was missing. When it arrived I installed as the instructions provided but will not connect and that is when I contacted their excellent tech support which they were very eager to help and make this product operational, I spent with them a few days of emailing and provide me with some Linux commands that made the product finally work. I found that patience is very important and establish communication with their knowledgeable tech support because they are there to really help you!

After some nightmarish experiences with USB wi-fi support on Linux, this adapter has been a pleasure to use. It worked as soon as I plugged it in to my Linux Mint 20.1 desktop (Ubuntu 20.04-based, 5.4 kernel) and it's given me reliable performance for a few weeks now despite being in a part of the house that isn't great for signal strength. The only thing it didn't do out of the box was WPA3 security (the default WPA2 worked fine), but that worked as soon as I upgraded to the standard Ubuntu 5.13 kernel - no extra driver downloads (or compilation!) required. For anyone using another Linux distribution and wondering if your kernel will support the adapter, lsusb shows it as "Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5572 Wireless Adapter" and it uses the rt2800usb driver.
